And I disagree that the kids are not expensive. They definitely are! Everything adds up....first its their milk and diapers....followed by medical bills........what about textbooks and uniforms? Even CCA's are not free. -

In reality, years ago, our forefathers did the same, right? They were our FT of the older years. Some managed to go home, some stayed bc it got complicated going back during the closed-door regime and not very pleasant either. In fact, best for them not to go back bc back then, those who were found to have family members overseas were prosecuted even more!
FT come here becos they can make money from this place and not becos they \"love\" this place very much.
And so our forefathers stayed, and here we are! Now the northeners are coming in. Similar history right? Except now they have way more options than our forefathers did. The world is way more accessible. -

I think they are stuck in the past thinking that past threats to nationhood are and will remain LOOMING threats to nationhood. There is a new threat and they're so afraid of these 3 TRADITIONAL threats that they WON'T take risks with any of them.
Petunia, I don't begrudge the money either - but I do question the seriousness of the intent of our leaders that born and bred sg citizens are important to our Nationhood.
Not even a little bit.
Looks a little bit like an established organisation such as Borders who didn't see what was creeping up on them. I don't doubt that economy, defence and education are priorities but if we don't fix the family, our nation will implode on itself. -

Not for 6 years right?
Don't need to give milk for 6 years wat. All of mine only had milk for 2 to 3+ years until they weaned themselves. And then they just don't drink milk anymore. They just eat normally. They are healthy teenagers and one teenager-to-be. Cow's milk not staple in our Asian Diet afterall. But well, who knows, maybe my no.4 will want to drink for 6 years. HAHA. My neighbour's was still nursing at 8 years old, I remember. He's a huge-sized tall boy of 16 years old now.

:salute: my exact sentiment on social engineering.Chenonceau:
I don't begrudge the millions spent on the 3 cash cows. Neither do I expect help to bring up my kids. I just want govt legislation that'll change social perceptions about men and childcare.

Still, there are indeed many who are struggling with the rising cost of bringing up a child. Thus, some help for them is still necessary as we can't depend on only those who can afford to have more kids.

Not for 6 years right?
At most, longest 2 years old. Diapers aren't cheap and not referring to Pampers. Supposing don't use diapers, cloth diapers aren't cheap either bcos you need water to wash.

Those who can well afford will not think that way...they want to have one child or 2 and still enjoy the spas, Europe/Japan holidays and stay in nice luxurious houses.Busymom:

Those who can afford are not having more kids cos they plan too far and thinks that they cannot afford. -

But I have many friends who've done that.

My dh just buys Fairprice housebrand dipes - so much nicer than they were 17 years ago when our no.1 was a baby. And he manages to get like 3 huge packs on offer for S$18, is it? Not sure. I remember very cheap. -
Population need to top-up using FT.
After they become Singaporean, also same like us… no baby.
Soon, hospital got no more baby wards.
Future baby making will be outsourced to countries who can make lots of babies. Singaporeans can start life as adults.
finish la… -

No guarantee that newly imported Singaporeans will contribute to birth rate. They come to Singapore to work, then find that costs of living is very high and after mingle mingle with us, give birth to 1 or 2 kids.Population need to top-up using FT.
