      x - y = 300

      Find x and y.

      How do you explain the whole process of solving this to your P3 dd?
      Alamak.. dun use algebra how to solve ? BTW, if the child use algbera can consider correct or not ??? hee...

        One of my friends checked with MOE. The answer is algbera method is allowed in exam.

        But it's too difficult for P3 students to understand the concept.

                  One can solve this using modeling method (sorry, can’t draw here, just imagine X is one rectangle split into 2 parts, and Y is one rectangle with same size as the first part of X):

                  X - 1 unit + 300 }
                  Y - 1 unit. } 500

                  So 500 - 300 = 2 units
                  1 unit = 100
                  Hence Y =100
                  X =400

                    I once went Greatmind’s seminar, they mentioned about how to solve math problem.

                    The principle of the center talked about modeling method , said the method is designed for students who cannot understand algebra well. The method can solve problems straightforward, it’s easy to implement, but not good to build logic thinking.

                    During the semina, the principle encouraged students to solve math problem use algebra method instead of modeling method. And he mentioned he has checked with MOE of algebra method validity in exam, the answer is yes.

                    To be frankly, i felt his point is somewhat resonable. But I don’t know how to teach my DD algebra in her age.

                        I am once like you until I read a book about modeling then I realised why is so important to teach the children modeling method is prepare for the math in future and moreover modeling method had won many medal all around the that's why countries wonders about our math education system in Singapore.
