First time I heard of chicken rice as a passport to HK!
      šŸ˜‰

No lah, I doubt the chicken rice can help her go far...she must have conned her way to HKG..cooking chicken rice and keeping herself 'stay employed' only after she was hired.
She must have told potential employers she can cook very well and look after kids while working here.

haha! They're all very good at telling stories. :D[/quote]childcare centres never get them to do story telling ?

My maid has been with us for a yr. Her contract is ending in Dec. I would say she is the best of all my 3 maids. Able to handle my 3 kids. This helps me a lot. Able to cook. Housework is ok. Not my standard lah but I’m ok so long as she takes care of my children well.

My mum just got her new maid. $400 without off day & experience. I increased by maid pay to $420 when she completed her 1 yr contract . Just a few days ago, my maid hinted to my mum that she can easily get $500 if she completes her 2 yr with me & work for a new employer. She will go back & come back again.

I felt we are been corned. Tough to train the maid up. hard to find one who can take care of children. Yet you cannot afford $500 per mth. My children are all in full day childcare. Most of the time, she is free if she completes her housework fast. Should I pay her $500?

How about offering her $450 or $460? I think for both parties, working with someone you know and are used to is still better then an unknown.

For her, yes she may be able to get $500 but her work may not be so senang and she may meet more difficult employers.

For you, you may be able to get a new maid at $400 but do you want to have to train them all over and risk the possibility of getting a lousy maid.

When my in laws move to stay with us next mth, I will change my 2 children to kindergarden but that will be next yr. Cannot get places in the kindergarden I shortlisted. My eldest wants to continue staying in the current childcare. He likes the school.

Yes, DH is thinking of $450. If she dun accept, we will just let her go. Dun want her to be yaya or play hard to get.

After the published articles of Indon Maid Salary increase to S$450.00, our maid attitude start to change.

A few months ago she told us she will renew her contract with us and a few week ago I asked her again, she told me she has to consider.

I’m actually offering her S$400.00 with off day and yearly home leave, is it too little ?

When u offer her $450, u should work thru with her that since there will be no agent's fees involved, as opposed to her going home and coming back again and being able to get $500, she will be effectively be better off staying on with u. As straight away she will be pocketing cash of $450 vs at least 6 months of deduction of $200-$300 even if she will be able to get $500 with new employer. Sometimes, they are not very far sighted and don't realize such details.

Question is do you want to keep her? If you really want to keep her, you have to match the pay and expectation. If you don't want to match her pay expectation, be prepared to loose her and re-employ a new maid (untried/untested) for SGD450.

agencies. I'm sure MOM will answer that this is private employment matter.
