Laughter's DD gave us the right modeling for this question. Use different lenght of rectangle to stand for X and Y.Spent the whole morning and came out with this. Let me try it tonight.

|---X---||-Y-| --> X + Y = 500
|-Y-|300 --> X - Y = 300
The 2 units of Y is equal to 500 - 300 = 200. So each Y is 100.
Then Y + 300 = X ==> 400 -
