Teacher's insensitivity? Care to share?rainbowfairy:
Good morning everyone. i have been following the thread recently, but seems to me nothing is mention about teacher. How do you guys rate your form teachers? i feel that form teacher somehow can make or break a child in some ways or sort.we are still new to MMCS, our first year went well. i found the form teacher quite supportive specially to Mrs.Ho. I take my hat off her,she is very motherly!! is it taboo to discuss teacher behavior in this site?
Totally agreed with this...The sensitivity and understanding of a teacher is very important to the child esp those in P1 and 2 when they are still in the fragile stage. Unfortunately, my DD just had a bad encounter last evening due to the teacher's insensitivity

Actually we do share about our impressions and experiences (if any) we had with the teachers. As for rating them, personally I think it's rather subjective and everyone have different criterions.
I totally agree with you that teachers have a huge impact on our children. The children even like and work harder on a particular subject when they like the teacher more!!! At least, I did when I was a student. Hee.... Hee....
There are quite a number of us who either wrote emails, speak through the phone to feedback or request for meet ups with the teachers.
Have you talk to the teacher regarding your concerns? -

Hi acjc,Hi Tinkerbelle
My BB is still very comfortable inside.
I am the one who is uncomfortable with the weight and aches.
Thank you so much for sharing and clarifying.

Not too long to go, right?? I suppose you're due anytime. Take care & all the best.
Body aches....good time to get DH to give you free massages....haha. -

yes, DD got 10 out of 10 but not sure why there's a B & B+ for the 3rd & 4th spelling respectively. Now it make sense cos DD's penmanship is really not so good.Tinkerbelle:
Juz realised that my DD's spelling bk has this \"B\" & \"B+\" (in red ink) under the remarks column for her 3rd and 4th spelling test. Anyone noes wat it means?
Hi Cantbearit2,
Just curious, was there a mark given as well with the \"B+\" grade?? I haven't seen a grade written on DDs' spelling books before. Last year, P1's penmanship marks were awarded according to a Handewriting practice book. Do the P1 have a handwriting practice book this year?
They still have the handwriting practice bk but it was not graded (or at least I din c any grades on it).
Hi cantbearit2,
Thanks for enlightening me. DD's handwriting also not exactly A* material...heehee.... So I quickly went to check DD2's spelling book but she wasn't given a grade. Guess it's a new thing they doing for P1.
Over the weekend, DD had to complete 6 pages of the writing practice book. Very sore hands by the time she finished tracing and writing. Guess the teacher is getting ready to grade the P2 gal's penmanship. -

Hi rainbowfairy,hi...any mummies from 4 compassion? my DD is telling me stuff that is going on in the classroom that i need to discuss to you mum or dad about. i hope someone can enlighten me in what's going on. please!!! has any DD been under Ms.Zaccheus before? can someone share me some ideas what she like?
No, I don't think it's a taboo to discuss about teachers here. A few of us have commented on teachers' attitudes and behaviours here...Just to name a few, Ms Sung, Ms Sng, Mrs Rashid, the Malay Language teacher.
I totally agree with you that a teacher can make or break a child. DD1 had very good and supportive teachers over the years and she still visits her P1/P2 teachers, even though they are in different sessions. DD2 is also very lucky that she had teachers who encourage her lots . As a result, I can see she's more confident now. For that, I'm grateful to the teachers and thank my lucky stars.
I've heard of Ms Zaccheus but I don't know her well enough to comment on her. I think if you have any issues with her, maybe you might like to get in touch with her either by email or make an appointment to speak to her via phone to clarify or address the issue. Hopefully, the issue can be resolved. Just my 2cents worth. -

Oh dear! DO you mind sharing about the bad encounter? -
Thanks Tinkerbell points taken. I think my DD had lost her spark this year. She did pretty well last year. She joined MMCS one term late but managed to grab first in class. She is never involved in what I mentioned scolding incident in a nearly everyday class affair but it left her a very bad impression and just lost her eagerness to do well in class. Her exact word "whatever, my teacher is never good in giving praise but verry good in putting us down. She said, we are not worthy to be in this class." My DD feels that there is no point in doing well coz u never get the recognition anyway.

I don't think its a taboo to speak out about teachers...i mean we are all just sharing info and experiences and learning from one another.....its sad that you said that your gal has \"lost \" her spark..i believe in NEVER putting down a child...we can encourage them ,tell them where they've gone wrong etc.....once they lose their confidence it can be hard to find it again...
i think almost everyone here knows that i have no qualms whatsoever to speak to teachers...its for my gal's benefit and its good to have good communicatin between parent and teacher right?
maybe u can speak to your gal's FT? :?
all the best, its hard when our gals are sad...as mummies we feel for them sooooo much more :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: -

Hi rainbowfairy,
Congrats to your DD on her excellent academic achievement. Not easy to be top in class, especially since she joined the sch later. :celebrate:
Do continue to encourage & support your DD. It would be should a shame to see a bright gal lose her spark and motivation simply because her teacher puts the class down & doesn't acknowlege their efforts.
Hope you don't mind me asking, does Ms Zaccheus scolds the whole class or just your DD?
Personally, for the sake of your your DD's self esteem, I feel that you should bring this issue up with the teacher. She needs to be aware that her actions can have a detrimental effect on the kids. I understand that teaching the top 2 classes can be stressful for the teachers but to take a blow at the kids' self-esteem is truly uncalled for. Hope things will improve for your DD soon. Hang in there, ya. -
