      Luanee:
Just to share something: last week my dd told me that she forgot to hand in her spelling book for the teacher to mark. So yest she gave me that book, and passed me a red pen, asking me to mark for her, as she is afraid the teacher will scold her for not handing up last week. I decided not to as it seems that she is asking me to fake the teacher's markings? So i told her to tell the teacher that she didnt hand in last week, and the teacher can mark her last week's spelling together with this week's.

Did I do the right thing? And why is it that the teacher didnt realise my dd didnt hand in her book??
yes you did the right thing

honesty and accountability has to be practised more than preached

Actually I dont mind my dd taking the test, or even going into GEP if she really has the apptitude. I am just not for the idea of ppl who actually send their kids to classes 'prepare' for the GEP tests, to increase their chances of getting in etc. I mean , if u are gifted means u are gifted, why need to prepare??

I want my dd to go into GEP, as I heard from my friend, that the GEP kids no need any outside tution, no need parents to accompany for study. What parents need to do for GEP student is to let them eat well and sleep well. That's my dream life... 😉

Erm... is your friend's kid in GEP?

Yes, Luanee, you certainly did the right thing. Honesty very, very important training from young !

vks2010, if not RGS / NYGH, then perhaps … MGS secondary, hor ?
              🙂

btw, this GEP stuff… is it … teaching / exposing GEP students to Secondary 1 subjects at primary 4 to 6 level ? If yes, then won’t GEP students get bored - when they go Secondary school later, since they more or less already cover during primary GEP ?

can any parents from GEP P5, or P6 kindly share what curriculum actually is involved ? Because i heard teachers do not let GEP students bring home Science worksheets … it’s like everything is all … hush, hush secret.

GEP kids are of higher ability, so in general shouldn't need tuition and indeed, are encouraged NOT to have tuition. BUT there are kiasu parents who will send their kids for tuition. Then there are ganchiong parents who will still fuss and worry over their kids, creating stress for themselves. So whether it's stress-free for the parents depends on the kid and the parents. 😄

My dd brought back the gep selection letter yesterday. All P3 here going for it?

I was told all students must go for the 1st round.

My cousin has a P4 dd. She didn't want her dd to go to GEP, of course that includes no taking of GEP screening test. On the day of the test (1st round), she brought her dd to see doctor, hence got an MC and managed to \"siam\" the test... (btw her daughter was one of the top students in the school)

I agree on this. How many tuition or enrichment classes ur kids go generally depend on the parents' gan cheongness... if ur kid is good enuf, even if she is not in GEP also no need tuition.

 My friend mentioned that principle asked GEP parents not to send their kids for outside tuition.

In fact, I really do not like tution. But I'm kiasumum, so many kids go for tution, how I can see my DD not going for it...but if principle say no, the thing will be totallly different.
