All About Montessori

Yo jules.. Nope. Never recced. Never had reason to. Too far off for moi.
Books came to life huh? Look how excited you are there now...
Now now jules... firstly wipe that drool off your chin.
You are definitely pre-empting the scenario with a maybe #2... sooo...
you reali gotta weigh the pros and cons. If your child CAN resume with
the place even with #2 in say until next year... he hasn't even reached
kindy stage yet... and you're gonna \"cry\" your eyeballs out when you
hafta make the big cut... and your DS is gonna have to adapt again in
another place. I remember you saying you prefer one place till graduate
right?
Err.. quickly toilet train? So problem solved?
Heard that Blossom Montessori has similar cycle but recently got takeover
with new management. They are kindy set up (longer hours) but all the
way in Holland. Down where you are... nope. None that i've heard ppl
rave about. -
kabalevsky:
The price is also very dreamy lor!
wow, sounds like dream come true!!

YESSSSSS!!!
:rotflmao:
If you still dunno i'm kidding, dun friend you oredi.
You guys here have done too much homework, so i cannot lax.
But it's good cause you are the kind of parents who can help translate
Montessori done during the day and into the home... aaahhh...
I love that..
Wait.. what were all (all of you) your requirements again.. lemme see..
1.Clean (okay..)
2.Safe (okay..)
3.Spacious (definitely not.. so cannot take in so many of you..)
(So how, take only a few of you here and make it very exclusive? )
4.Cheap???
5.No transport service offered :politebleah: -
buds:
Can't help myself! It's like wandering in the desert n now i come to a well n i have to cut off my hand to get a drink!

I told you I can do PV mah. Then I can arrange to take my boy for class at the same time as my PV. Then don't need transport liao

Can, can. Clean, safe, reasonable charges, no problem!
Transport, should be ok if I schedule it before my 2 older sons are dismissed from sch. (You also have 2 older ones right?)
Ahhh, good, I am getting excited.
Just to confirm, you are at CCK?
If not, after I get so excited, I find you are at Katong or Changi, I can forget it.

buds:
*gulp*
Really arh?
kabalevsky:
:politebleah: Nope. :politebleah:i think smwhere earlier in this thread u said ure nw in cck? i'm at jurong.

Just shifted.
buds:
Wait.. who are you again? Hehee..
kabalevsky:
i just joined this thread cos my dd is almost 13mth, looking 4 playgp ard jurong, v hard to find. came in ksp to do some research, found lots of info here...
I see.. so most days you were just lurking around and playing catch up issit?
(ie. catch up on reading) Never seen you around here before.
kabalevsky:
There's a Montessori cc at JW Ext (Recreation Centre) that may be able to dobut still can't find suitable PG near west. i prefer parent-accompanied cos dd still young, and also, if monte, prefer pure one, or at least longer time spent on monte materials. don't want all the other stuff...
just a few hour session in the PM subject to availability of course. Last i heard
they were FULL! :!: Think it's MMI.
There's also one beside Sakura.. The Enrichment Hub. They have one outlet in
Yew Tee CC as well. But they adopt the multimedia-styled-approach which i
find rather cool. I think 2-hr lessons for PG.
There's a Montessori kindy at Ichiban Kindergarten CCK & also Blossom Montessori in Holland.kabalevsky:
so, can open class??? please?

buds:
 Think first..
:lol:kabalevsky:
anyway your baby will be up and about pretty soon, so you wld need to teach her also rt? hahaha idea, hor?
Where got soon? And hor... it's a boy. Not ah-ger.
kabalevsky:
Yes! Very good idea! :idea:then you can do multi-age monte with all those here, all begging you for PG
Next year?
Cause that's only when he's up and about..
He's not even 2 mths yet lei..
kabalevsky:
What's not there that you are seeking...?i checked out MMI JW Ext, MMI JW (st 51), and almost all the other 18mth classes around here. not trials but just go and have a look, that kind... still can't find wt i want.
Do share.. so i oso can reflect on my own ahemm... future programme.
kabalevsky:
Really arh?[i guess i'm looking for sth like wt jul04 said, more hands on with the monte materials, no worksheet/ acad things...
Then, you're godsent parents that Montessori educators all over adore.
Most times we have parents who do not believe in what we do and questions
the time the children spend with us... saying the children are doing nothing &
wasting time... either just playing on their own... or worse... seemingly doing
nothing. Sigh..
kabalevsky:
Nope.[like that, considered fussy ah??? :?
Consider very good liao! :celebrate: -
oh dear, so you shifted further away from jurong or nearer???
(hope it is nearer... )
first joined ksp cos I was searching for info on P1 reg (for ds1), but that was in 2009. only recently started looking for Montessori threads then found this, so yup, i've only just appeared, never been here before.
Oh? thanks so much for the leads. will try looking for what you suggested, and see how they're like.
if distance is further, i will really have to make sure it is worth travelling there. so CCK and Holland will be at the end of my priority list.
Where got soon? And hor... it's a boy. Not ah-ger.
oh sorry, just cos mine is a dd, I think everyone's bb is a dd. haha
Next year?
Cause that's only when he's up and about..
He's not even 2 mths yet lei.. :|
next yr ah... errr... maybe can start slightly earlier, like this sept? he'll be 9mth? 9mth can crawl, can sit, can play....
What's not there that you are seeking...? :|
Like I said, at this age, they are so young. Social and motor skills are more impt. Practical life or sensorial skills are more impt than say phonics or actual learning of math or whatever.
So my main aim is for bb to see other adults, learn that there are other adults she can take instructions from, see other kids and how they react to situations.... Social skills?
Then, I would like to develop her physical and motor skills. So I don't like all those very small air-con room kind of classroom. Add 10 more kids and their parents and the teachers... I think it is very crowded and perhaps scary for the young kids.
So I eliminated all those with small rooms. Or big class size.
I also want to be in the class so the emotional burden (dunno how to express that) is removed, and she can safely and securely explore and learn. What i mean is, I don't want her to suffer from separation anxiety or be scared or whatever and cry the whole time and hence what is the point in enrolling her? I am a SAHM, so I don't need a childcare.
Therefore, I eliminated all those who are CC and don't offer parent-tot class.
I didn't want a Sat class cos Sat is our family day (when Dh and both older boys are free) so we need to do things as a family.
Then I didn't want to pay extra for the Montessori name yet have only 15min of actual Montessori time. So there goes many being crossed out cos they all tell me only 15min.
Or, am I asking for too much. Is it that 15min is the norm?
Then, you're godsent parents that Montessori educators all over adore.
really? I guess that's why we are here in this thread huh?
my ds2 is in a presch that has a good balance i think. academically ok, and emphasis is on learning thru play and meaningful activities. but it is not montessori and he is older (k2) so it's ok that he attends presch without me (he is in a presch that operates as a childcare, although he doesn't attend the full day)
when i looked for a presch for him, i also looked for one that doesn't have weekly tingxie and spelling, and no take-home worksheets at all. i think they'll have enough of that in Pr sch. like my poor ds1.
i like that presch's trs and it is near my home but unfortunately their 18mth old class is a drop off one, no parent-tot kind.

Hi Buds!
You're here!
Been wondering why not many people inhabit the Club Northerners thread.. other threads are more popular!
Can I gatecrash and put my name down on the waiting list for any classes you may consider having??? Please!!
I've put my DD in a normal kindy cos the Montessori ones around Sembawang / north area are too exp!! Love the Purple Train at Woodlands Civic Centre but $$.....
Briefly looked at MMI at Sembawang.. but rather dark and dreary so I did not even step in... hmmm...
Still, not gonna give up! Even if have to settle for just enrichment in Math with you, I'm happy! The normal kindy don't really teach much of Math, though I started (and concluded) my gal's fast trial with some Math school some time in the hol, and not sure if it's alike montessori but there's plenty of fingering etc.. little / no worksheets... I love it!! DD loves it too..

Hi Buds!
Heyya lil_jade! Long time no see... :peekaboo:lil_jade:
Yup.. but not just here reali.. i'm always... around.. :evil:You're here!

Gatecrash? :!:Can I gatecrash and put my name down on the waiting list for any classes you may consider having??? Please!!
With my current wait list... ?
As long as you're as formidable as the rest who oredi
thought of gate crashing... :nunchuk: Mwahahaaa! :laugh:lil_jade:
I get watcha mean.. that's why i ended up teaching my own kiddiesI've put my DD in a normal kindy cos the Montessori ones around Sembawang / north area are too exp!! Love the Purple Train at Woodlands Civic Centre but $$.....
the Montessori teachings and sent them for normal kindies when they
were in preschool. They started preschool late too.
lil_jade:
Yes, if we had a choice we definitely prefer big, spacious, airy andBriefly looked at MMI at Sembawang.. but rather dark and dreary so I did not even step in... hmmm...
cheerful looking classrooms. But cheerful teachers is a must for me. :please:lil_jade:
I love teaching Math hands-on and yes not too many worksheets initiallyStill, not gonna give up! Even if have to settle for just enrichment in Math with you, I'm happy! and even if there are any it is more of only reinforcement and simple and
not the testing kinds.
This way parents are updated on what we do during
the sessions. Plus the kiddies can do the talking for you on how much they've
enjoyed the lessons. They'd tell you using what assignments they brought home.
No probs with enrichment classes for me... it is reali just a matter of the
official \"when\" at this point of time..
