It's very difficult to get into RGS via MEP. Friend's dd who is very talented in music, has diplomas, performances under her belt etc didn't get in. It probably has to do with the strict GAT test as well.

But if the child has only grade 7 or 8, but is National Prizewinner, sure to get offer. ;D That's what I've observed of those offered.

      Music or Visual Art (SAP)

Demonstrate interest and talent in Music or Visual Arts beyond the abilities of children in the same age group.

For Music, have achieved at least Grade 5 Theory and Grade 7 Practical (Distinction or equivalent).

Have a history of accomplished performance in Music or Visual Arts at the national and/or international level.

above is copied from RI website
Yes, I know what the RI website says and it has remained the same with little change over the past 5 years. But so far among all those who've applied over the years, it's generally the competition prizewinners that are given Cfrm Offer if they apply under MEP domain for DSA. Generally even Diploma distinction also no chance if no competition prize or other awards.

That's why I say it has to do with GAT test as well.

But first have to get pass the selection tests round before even get the chance to do the GAT. Most of the applicants won't even get to do the GAT.
Then her GAT must've done her in because I recall her mum saying that she sat for GAT. šŸ˜„

But from year 2009 psle year onwards, RI/RGS has practised doing the selection test first before GAT.

Unfortunately DS doesn't qualify under the \"distinction\" category  . I also understand from a fren this afternoon that for RI, it would require more than Grd 7 Practical Grd 5 Theory - those that applies under such category are usually way beyond this and have lots of competition and performance exposure. At best, this can only be listed in DS portfolio to make it look a little bit better
One school where it would be easier to do DSA under MEP domain is Dunman High. They also take in under CCA music, I think. Their selection process is more sincere than RI/RGS. NYGH also does DSA for music CCA apart from MEP.
