just curious … if a child has been offered GEP but choose to opt out and continue in mainstream … but later go say, RGS Secondary, won’t this child lose out later when she goes to Secondary school … because all GEP primary school students had been trained for 3 long solid years from P4 to P6 - in accelerated effective training methods of learning / quick thinking ?


if a rgps child is not in GEP class but in normal, mainstream class … will she gets the same, equal chance to be exposed to, and be able to receive these type of good training methodology and thinking, as well ?

bcos i heard that RGPS tend to assign the best teachers, best training resources to GEP classes, plus perhaps one or two top mainstream classes (pls correct me if i am wrong). The rest … i not sure … the flip side of the coin i heard often is … some rgps teachers dont teach much… they leave it to the parents.

Actually I dont mind my dd taking the test, or even going into GEP if she really has the apptitude. I am just not for the idea of ppl who actually send their kids to classes 'prepare' for the GEP tests, to increase their chances of getting in etc. I mean , if u are gifted means u are gifted, why need to prepare??

I want my dd to go into GEP, as I heard from my friend, that the GEP kids no need any outside tution, no need parents to accompany for study. What parents need to do for GEP student is to let them eat well and sleep well. That's my dream life...

That's my dream life too. Even if she didn't get in.

I think that is possible so long she can cope in the mainstream. Can cope here means B1 for all subjects.

Not all the GEP kids are good in all four subjects some may be strong in maths but not sci and some may be good in english… Hence, some parents may send their GEP kids for tuition.


Gep kids do learn thing beypnd their level… Like sec one maths, history (social studies) and their HCl is more difficult than the mainstream hcl.

I dun know how the sch ‘tune’ the GEP kids to sit for their PSLE.

you mean … want to groom them to be engineers so young ? they can’t possibly become medical doctors, because Biology not taught at NUSH ?

if go NUSH, i suppose kids lose out also on language part … since it’s unlikely that they become lawyers, journalists ?

if they go normal Secondary school instead of NUSH, kids can still turn out to be engineers when grow up … so what’s the lure / attraction of channelling to NUSH … at such young age ?

i see … so GEP is something like Secondary 1 level subjects being customized / brought down /taught at Pri 4, 5, 6 level … hence it’s called acclerated learning primary programme ?

This is said different people have different aspirations, 人各有志in chinese.

Those kids have strong interested in math, and science.

From what I understand, gep teachers are chosen by moe and not the individual schools so the schools do not assign the best teachers to the gep classes. However, there is a common belief that schools generally do assign the better teachers to the top mainstream classes so if your kids are not in gep, it would be good if they can get into the top classes.
