Yes, agree with Luanee. Also just want to share that there are gep kids who attend enrichment for all subjects. One parent informed me that he/she strongly believes that it is a necessity and said that there are many gep students in this centre To each his own, I suppose.
I agree on this. How many tuition or enrichment classes ur kids go generally depend on the parents' gan cheongness... if ur kid is good enuf, even if she is not in GEP also no need tuition.jtoh:
GEP kids are of higher ability, so in general shouldn't need tuition and indeed, are encouraged NOT to have tuition. BUT there are kiasu parents who will send their kids for tuition. Then there are ganchiong parents who will still fuss and worry over their kids, creating stress for themselves. So whether it's stress-free for the parents depends on the kid and the parents.

From what I understand, gep teachers are chosen by moe and not the individual schools so the schools do not assign the best teachers to the gep classes. However, there is a common belief that schools generally do assign the better teachers to the top mainstream classes so if your kids are not in gep, it would be good if they can get into the top classes.
No wonder my friend's son who was in NYPS last year mentioner, his class' (Top class) PLSE overall score is better than GEP class, his teachers are very happy.
the top class teachers in NYPS also teach the bottom class. of course the targets are different
this bust the myth that if your kids not in top class will be sidelined - simply not true, at least for NYPS -

I don't think the GEP kids learn sec one staff in primary school

for what I know they (GEP kids) are trained to think more in depth, certain answers are not as straight forward as what is presented at mainstream PSLE type of answers (hence they have some disadvantage in answering PSLE questions, resulting in lower scores) because they have been taught to think further ...
also for GEP kids they have projects and social science and FPSP etc etc etc is built into the curriculum while it remains as CCA for the mainstreamers
but once they hit sec one (for the GEP kids), they will be able to move very fast while mainstream kids will find it a challenge to catch up with the GEP kids at sec one.....but at sec three they should be leveled out already
for those P6 mainstream kids now placed with GEP class in the IP schools, the school would have briefed them on the area that they need to put in extra effort to catch up / to run at the same pace. some school in facts have pull-out sessions for the mainstream kids in GEP class to monitor their coping mechanism
by and large for those high scores (mainstream) placed in GEP class, they do catch up very fast, justifying their high PSLE scores. -
Much like society, isn't it? The top earners get wooed with privileges, the bottom earners get financial assistance but the sandwiched class is left out.

some schools put all their eggs in one basket -

I want my dd to go into GEP, as I heard from my friend, that the GEP kids no need any outside tution, no need parents to accompany for study. What parents need to do for GEP student is to let them eat well and sleep well. That's my dream life...ctct61t:
