My bro is living with his in-laws (a big family). Shld not be no stimulation. The child understands what the adults tell him, he just wld not respond via speech.[/quote]is the child shy? usually shdnt be shy to own family members. got to chk if got speech problems. 2 yrs old may be a bit young tho i know some at 2 are very chatty already. can give a couple of mths up to 2.5yrs old to monitor. i rem my #1 only started talking at 2.5yrs. #2 was late but as it its, he had speech delay
got to find out at 2, why cant talk? due to lack of stimulation becos no one reads to him, talk to him, or becos of some inherent problem. or maybe no interaction at hm?24hr-mum:

My brother's coming to 2 yo son still cant talk. I noticed he drools a lot too. How does the speech therapist help for such children? -
24hr-mum, mind sharing the fees for the assessments and the programs pls? TIA.

assessment is 380 for a 2hr assessment. if sign up, then the 380 can be included inside the course fee, ie free assessment. if didnt sign up after the evaluation, then pay the 380
i cant rem the exact course fees but its worked out abt 70-100 an hr depending on the package and they also increased the fee later cos mine was 2 yrs ago. it was sthing like 2400 for 20 sessions or so, 4800 for 60 sessions, . my boy was rather slow so it was money that i cant save and lucky got bb bonus. i know if u sign up for more sessions at 1 go, the per session rate is lower -

Its a lot of money, 24hr-mum, and the things we will do for our kids! Last year I paid SGD2,000 per month for the private early intervention centre daily 3 hours for my boy. Went for 9 months. This year, he is attending kindergarten but I continue to put him for 1 hour sessions 3 times per week at SGD100 each time. Mainly so that my 3+ yo son will receive personal attention to do reading, learn phonics, do other fine motor skill activities etc.. He has speech delay and just beginning to speak so yes, we are still watching over him and having this additional support outside school hours is important! Yup, all budget and time go into this liao, so no further enrichments for him!

same here. when my boy went for speech therapy at 2+, then "brain therapy" at brainfit, my #1 didnt hv any enrichment.
i use bb bonus to pay and ‘close one eye’. otherwise very heart ache
but if u dont do it now, they wont hv time once they hit p1. -
Hi 24-hr mum
Many thanks for sharing the info on Brainfit.
Hi Desert wind
Do you mind if you share which early intervention centre your child goes to? Did your child improve after attending the programme?
I have a K2 child who is also slow at learning, and has undergone a series of therapy with a educational psychologist. We’ve stopped seeing the psychologist as she said that my child is ok now, except for some delay in literacy skills and she recommended us to see her friend who specialises in teaching literacy skils. Am trying to find out more about other programmes to see which one suits my son best.
Many thanks! -
hi gerber
mind sharing what’s the definition of slow in learning?
sometimes maybe the child was not being exposed to more academic stuff at home or in school, maybe not really slow but just need more enrichment lessons?
for literacy skills, is a specialist needed or just those phonics programmes can help? i didnt use phonics myslf, just flashcards of sight words. -

Yes, my son improved after attending the programme last year! Partly due to the time factor in his natural development (he grew up) and also due to the close attention given by his teachers at this early invention centre who were able to engage him. He enjoyed going to school!
I think it would be good for your son to attend some sort of \"Preparation for P1\" classes this year at whichever centre you find most comfortable with the teachers/principal.
(I have PM you the contact & remove it on this website).

24hr-mum:
Good thing last year I sold off my condo. and so have a pool of money which I set aside for my DS. But this year got to budget liow hence cut down to 3 times a week. Actually I stopped sending him for 2 months over the year-end since he is now attending kindy but his kindy teacher told me that we should do more at home with my DS to prep. him for K1 next year. Since the nursery classes are large, they won't be able to pay him individual attention. Because of my son's speech delay that's why she brought it up that we should closely monitor him. Otherwise, he is able to participate and attend kindy without much problems and enjoying it. The kindy teacher also specifically mentioned the \"pencil grip\" as my son is not holding the pencil correctly. She said to do clothes peg exercises to train up the thumb and forefinger so that next year K1 it will not be so tough on my son! So back he goes again to the early intervention centre to do a different programme 3 times 1 hourly a week to \"prep for K1\". Don't talk about P1 yet, step-by-step!same here. when my boy went for speech therapy at 2+, then \"brain therapy\" at brainfit, my #1 didnt hv any enrichment.

Hi DesertWind
Many thanks for the info.
Hi 24-hr mum
My son is about 3-4 months slower compared to his twin sister and my elder son at his age. He’s 5 years 2 months now but is still unable to read simple readers - can only recognise some basic words. The problem is also partly due to his short attention span and lack of focus. The good thing is that he’s gradually matured and is more focussed these days.
However, he may still lose out to his classmates when he goes to P1 next year as he is a Dec baby.
