Tao Nan School is also one of the schools which I've aimed for...in fact husband paid $500 membership fees to join SHHK in year 2009 hoping to come under Phase 2B... However, being inactive member (low chance of getting recommedation letter) plus many factors like distance, stressful school, etc, we gave up TNS....we both in the same situation, address near a good school (for me is Red Swas.) but choose to give up coz kiasi (hahhaha)...but i think your sacrifice is even more coz TNS is top school compare to Red Swas which is a slightly better \"neighbourhood school\" i guess (no offence to parents of Red Swas., just citing my personal humble opinion and trying to compare the \"status\" here).


That's exactly what my hubby said \"take the easy way out\" and he has strong loyalthy to MBPS. He's so proud of the school and keep stressing to me that this school dun just take care of academic aspects, the school being affliated to some Buddhism relationship, focus alot of character structuring with buddhism teaching (that was his era)....I am tunning my mindset to take MBPS now...my hubby direction is dun even bother to check on Phase 2C, once register for MBPS, PERIOD..no follow up action..For me, i am on dilema whether to continue to \"fight\" for Red Swas. like what hquek suggested earlier on...but if i really manage to get in Red Swas. subsequently and then give up MBPS, will i have any regrets...life is full of decision doesn't it...maybe shld go temple and draw lots?

Actually for us, our address is within 1km of HIPS and 1-2km of Rosyth. We also have another property within 1km of TNS. So hubby was like.... maybe we can try Rosyth for my 3rd. I was like.... if you are keen, you go and do the PV etc... by yourself, don't get me involved. MBS to me is good enough. I've a nephew in Rosyth and he belongs to the average performer. I don't see anything special that the school is doing for him. His brother has graduated from Rosyth years back and he also went to a neighbourhood sec school. So I feel that results is sometimes child driven. A child with right attitude who goes to neighbourhood school has similar chance of making it to a top secondary school. But as parents, we try to provide that kind of environment for the kids.

Then sometime ago, my mum met an old friend who works in TNS. She was joking with her if she has lobang for TNS. So the friend asked what school are my kids in now. When she mentioned MBS. The friend was like MBS is a good school, don't bother.

Maybe you can visit the MBS parents support group in KSP to get a feel of how things are like. I would like to remind you that it's not a bed of roses. There was also pros and cons to each school since no one is perfect. Also, bear in mind, that everyone's expectations is different so you will definitely hear differing views about the school.

But what I personally like about MBS so far is :
* Good selection of CCA. Some of their CCA are also award winning so this will help when the child needs it for DSA/ talent,etc.. for PSLE.
* From my personal experience, teachers do not tell parents that your child cannot cope, pls give him/ her tuition. The teachers will conduct remedial lessons to beef up the child. So far the teachers also work closely with us on behaviourial and academic aspect. But again, I classify this as a \"heng\"/ \"suah\" thingy depends on the teachers your child get. I believe all schools have this problem. Eg. my Rosyth nephew also encountered situation of numerous teacher changes when he was in P3.
* There seems to be a balance between academic and non-academic. But this is subjective. Some parents might want super academic environment so that their kids can do well in PSLE. So again it voice down to what you want.
* I've some relatives in TNS and they told me that for P1 and P2, they need to pay to join some CCA as it's considered as enrichment classes. In MBS, we do not have this. Kids are encourage to join CCA even though it's not compulsory. So they are given opportunity to explore different interest earlier.
* They have malay conversational classes from P3 onwards. This is free and after school. Initially I thought this is compulsory but it's not. I feel that given that it is a SAP school it wants to child to stay in tune with the multi racial environment.
* My kids enjoy going to school. They enjoy MBS. This to me is important.

For buddhist aspect, we are more of free thinker. The kids attend once a week buddhist study. It teaches more on moral values and buddha teaching. But don't expect it to be the hard core type. It's not. Also, there will still be mischevious/ naughty students around. This is more driven by characters and sometimes family background which is beyond the school's control.

But I would choose MBS over and over again simply because I want a easy P1 registration. The telecast of parents crying due to joy/ sorrow of a place in P1 is permanent in my head. I don't want to go through that. It must be very stressful for anyone who has to do that.

I am Christian so I want my son to be in a Christian school. I have 2 school of choice & unfortunately, both I have no affliation with cos I was from RGPS and I cant register my son there. DH school in the East & no longer around.

Choice of school:
1. ACS (Primary)
2. Fairfield Methodist (submitted PV & awaiting for school to call in June)
3. ACS (Junior)

Any other Christian schools around? Not keen on Catholic schools if given a choice. Residence wise, I am flexible as I am currently staying with my parents & depending on where we want to register my son, we will move near there. I understand the min. validity of address is 6 mths prior to registration but heard of cases where they got the address 2 weeks prior.

Good to hear any recommendations.

For boys, there are four Methodist schools - ACPS, ACJS, Fairfield and Geylang Methodist.
Two Presbyterian - Pei Hwa and Kuo Chuan
Two Anglican - St. Andrews Junior and St. Hilda's

What denomination do you belong to? Because if you attend any Methodist church (there might be other conditions), you are allowed to register in Phase 2B. Ditto with the Presbyterian and Anglican schools, I think. So that could help narrow your choices.

On address, there is no rule saying you need to have lived there six months prior to registering. You can literally change your address on your nric the day of registration. What counts is that you must truly live at that address, and intend to live there throughout the six years of your DS' primary education. Good luck!

With the new electoral boundaries, I may have shot at choosing either fairfield Methodist or ACS. Which one would be a better choice in your opinion?

Would appreciate your thoughts as I'm in a bit of a loss. I've read a comment from someone who also has a choice of these 2 schools (by way of Methodist) that putting the son in Fairfield would seem like discounting the child's ability. Do any of you have the same thoughts?
I was originally planning to put my boy in Fairfield but lately I notice that the results of Fairfield appear to have somewhat deteriorated from its heydays and less stellar compared to ACS: is that a fair assessment? But I do have friend's kids in Fairfield and they're very happy.
I'm at a loss now. What would u do if u were me? :idea:

I’m currently staying at Bishan and will be registering my son (2005) for P1 this year. Initially I thought that my address was within 1 km of Catholic High so I wanted to try registering for it. But i just found out its 1.1km and i have not been able to do PV cos we have been living overseas for the last 5 years. Chances of getting a plc seems really, really slim so I am wondering if we should just forget about CH and just try Kuo Chuan cos we are within 1 km ( I’m not even sure which phase should i register under cos i’m so confused!!!). Is anyone familiar with Kuo Chuan Primary? Is it any good?

Am sure there are lots of parents who are like me that worry that if they do not try to send their child to a top school…would we be depriving them of a good foundation? On the other hand I can’t help but think that if they go to an average school and perform…they can still get into a good secondary school which i feel is just as important. I have friends telling me that sometimes it may not be a bad thing to put the child in an ave school where he is happy n triving than to have him suffering with low self esteem and struggling in a top school.

email to cath hi, if the sch confirms u r out of 1km, can really forget it cos there is already balloting WITHIN 1KM for phase 2b and 2c if u double chk wif the balloting history. ask the sch abt the balloting history.

last year there were only 9 seats each for phase 2b and 2c for cath hi.

not sure if history will repeat this year.
if u choose cath hi at phase 2c and dont get in, got to double chk balloting hist of kuo chuan to see if still got seats at phase 2c supp
