All About Preparing For PSLE

Pen88n:
Not sure if it's only SOTA that charges $150. My friend told me that RGS only charges $50. :scratchhead:Tinkerbelle:
Wow!!! $150 for SOTA DSA? What domain is your DD applying for? Did you go for SOTA's symposium? All the best to your DD. :celebrate:
DSA is sure expensive! I better tell DS to consider carefully and only choose the one he really wants to go in. -

Sounds interesting. What does their audition entail?
Tks, Tinkerbelle!TREX8:
Trex8, your dd trying out for SOTA DSA? Which domain? Good luck!
Hi jtoh, thanks! DD's going for Theatre Arts. We went for the symposium last Friday and like what we hear from the Principal and Theatre Arts teacher.
The audition differs for the various art forms but it is a full day session. For theatre arts, it will start with a group session where the students will be given some tasks to complete in group. They will be observed by both the academic and theatre arts teachers. There is also a compulsory writing activity.
For the individual session, each student needs to prepare a monologue (chosen from those given on the SOTA website) and present to the panel. The panel might give suggestions and request the child to present the monologue again, incorporating the suggestions. There would also be a simple Q&A session.
Pen88n, I didn't expect DSA to cost so much. But I supposed the fee is probably to weed off those who are not serious and just want to try try.
I think SOTA's DSA charge is the highest. This could be due to the fact that SOTA does not reject any application. That is, all applicants will be given a chance to do the audition. Hence, the school would need to arrange for domain experts to be present during these auditions which is conducted on a one-on-one basis. The DSA fees probably goes into off-setting the costs to some extent. -

Thanks for sharing your DD's SOTA experience. Very interesting indeed. Definitely not an easy task for a 12-year-old to present a monologue to a panel of judges. :salute: -
Trex8, wishing your dd all the best for her audition. You’re going for the March one right?

The plan, so far, is to go for the March audition (deadline is 1 March). That means, die die must complete form online today and send documents and cheque down to SOTA by Monday.
Will check with DD after school today and confirm that she wants to go for SOTA's Theatre Arts and would be able to prepare the monologue in time for 14 March audition date. Don't want to waste time, effort and money if she's not certain.
Once she's certain, we will submit online this afternoon.
Tks for all the good wishes! -

I heard some sec schools are out to invite attendees for tea reception with principal, for special talent category. Anyone has any experience to share? -

i dun remember signing any forms leh, maybe my gal signed herself .
Made quick check with ds last night. Their FT asked the forms be verified (in terms of their name, mailing address and only 2 subjects mentioned per ds ie EL and CL ). FT mentioned payment no need at the moment. Not sure if this is the same form...
The form states that \"I confirm that my information and entries are correct\" followed by a Signature line.Pen88n:

Pen88n,
Will you please confirm who should sign the form, the student or the parent? :?
DS school teachers all asked for parent's signature. -

Pen88n, tks for the good wishes. Just submitted the form online. Will need to make a trip down on Monday to personally submit the documents and cheques - don't think I want to do it by post.Trex8,

Nothing from my DD re being invited for tea reception with principal - probably cos DD is not in the \"special talent\" category. However, if you look under the \"All about DSA\" thread, there is some mention of tea reception with Principal - I think RGS and NYGH (sorry - only remember stuff for the girls'schools) -

Hi MUm1113,
DD mentioned to me that some of her classmates also had missing subjects on their psLE registration form. The teacher told them to make the necessary amendments in pencil and she will submit to the relevant authories to get them updated in the MOE system.
Did your DS inform his teacher re 2 PSLE subjects only?
