Personally, I dun think is necessary to go to APS, just find a good coach who teaches 4 to 5 kids at the same time is good enough… and the coach then train and test your kid and provide you with cert for bronze, silver or gold which are issued by Singapore Sports Council.


APS is suitable for competitive training… and rather expensive too.

My dd is in one of these classes. As the top 80 mainstream students are placed in these classes, i am using this as a yardstick as to how she is doing as she paces herself towards psle. My hope is that she remains in one of these classes at p5/6 and thereafter enters the sec school of her choice.

That works out to be 8.3% way higher than 1% in whole of SG. That is also achievable for some if they are always the top few in class.

I'm not sure how the school select the top 80 but the only component I can think of is based on the SA2 results (of P3/4/5). Add the total marks of the 4 subjects, do a sort and cutoff at 80.

Good guess! The school should be sending the p3 parents a letter about this. Unless the rules change, I remember it to be the top 80 mainstream girls based on their sa1(30%) + sa2(70%) score from English, Math and Science in p3. Should be the same for p4 going into p5.

Frankly, I think it is harder getting into p5e/f than p4e/f because they take the \"top 80\" after some girls move into gep, without taking into account those transferring into the schools at p4 for the following year. These girls transferring in are sure to include bright girls and some of them would make it to e/f in p5.

i think is also not easily to get into 4 e/f cos the girls who has cleared the 1st round of GEP test shld also be in these two classes. And these girls although they may not be academically strong but they are gifted in certain way and MOE says that they will inform the school on the strength of the girls who has clear the first round of GEP test as to whether they are strong in english/maths/general ability

A number of girls who passed the first round of GEP selection were tranferred and distributed to the mainstream classes. They have the higher chances to get into P5e/f.
