CHIJ Family of Schools

Really? Calling the school can find out the exact number? If that is the case, does that mean I can do a last minute check, assess my chances between 2 schools before registering under phase 2C?LittleLambie:
I read the compilation of past balloting records and it seems that only last year did CHIJ Katong did a balloting for those more than 2km. Anyone can help to confirm this? I am staying more than 2km and wonder how good my chances are in Phase 2C. Anyone has more past data?
Among all CHIJ schools, only CHIJ Katong and CHIJ OLQP conducted balloting for those out of 2km last year for phase 2C. The rest balloted either within 1km or 1-2km. If u want to know the exact number of applicants out of 2km vs places, u have to call up the school to ask as MOE doesnt publish this info. It only publishes total applicants without distance breakdown info. -
Hi Parents,
I will be involved in this yrs registration for my child. I am really interested to enrol my child in a girl’s school. The nearby school will be CHIJ Lady of Nativity at Hougang. However, it is more than 2km away from the home. Can I still go ahead to register? Pls advise. Thank you -

Nazrai, I assume u only qualify under phase 2C? If so, this school conducted balloting for those residing 1-2km for the last 3 years. So if this year the same thing happens, u wont even get a chance to ballot. Pls refer to chief's compilation:Hi Parents,

Sorry didnt see ur question until now. What I meant earlier was to call up the school for past years' registration stats regarding how many applicants are within which distance category etc. Of coz for this year u can call up the school last minute if u want to gauge ur chances before registering. But I guess the phone lines may be so busy during that time, thus calling up may not be a good idea. What parents usually do is to station themselves at the schools physically to get the latest updates. -
understood. thanks.

Hi mummies,
care to share more about CHIJ kellock? How’s the environment & culture?
I’m thinking of RVPS or IJ Kellock. -
Thanks for the infor. I will just hope for the best. I am really keen to enroll my child in the CHIJ Lady of Nativity. But I know there will be minimal chance of getting in. Have to keep my fingers crossed.

[/quote]My girl is in P1 in CHIJ OLN this year. So far so good. Very proactive principal who gives quick detailed updates, all school activities planned to the utmost details (even sandwich and drinks for parents during orientation prep before school start as it started early at 830 if I remember correctly), caring teachers. The whole school runs like a well oiled-machine with well trained and prepared prefects, parent volunteers and teachers.Hi
My elder gal is in P1 this year..so far so good.
I am also \"a lazy mother, do not want to stress myself and my gals on the academic area - just wanna them to be happy and be confidence of themselves.\" But I dun wanna my girl to lose out toooo much....heheh...
I live near CHIJ (OLN) and i am an old gal of Henry Park which is very far from my place.
Anybody can advise should I enrol my girl in CHIJ(OLN) or travel the distance and opt for Henry Park instead?
Really appreciate any comments....been thinking about this dilemma ever since my girl was 3+ yrs old...
Thanks!bebe:

I have great memories from my time at CHIJ and think the school had quite an influence on how I turned out. But I realise that was some time ago, things may have changed. If anyone has daughters there, please share
I am thinking of PLMGS because of my affiliation to the church but have little idea what the school's like. Thanks a lot!
There is homework and spelling for P1 (Eng and MT), also quizzes based on subject and for each team (all graded and count towards year end results) which may be more work than some primary schools. Lots of planned short term (8-12 weeks) school activities for those who do not have already have a packed program (Speech & drama, Language, Math, Drawing etc) after school by independent contractors.
As for HP vs CHIJ OLN, please take into consideration the logistics plus travel time to and fro school, especially when they are most likely to have after-school activities as they grow older. Check also whether there are any school buses from Hougang to Henry Park, what's the cost, what is pick up and drop off time. If you plan on driving, Hougang to Henry Park via KPE at 6+ takes about 25-35min one way.
You will have to be able to work with the logistics for at least 7 years assuming your 2 girls are 1 year apart, more if wider age gap... unless you plan to move closer to HP...
Hope this helps. -

There will be a time lag between MOE website and school's actual situation, and the numbers may be off by a few kids... It is best to be at the schools in the morning to get the latest numbers to gauge your chance, since there is no such thing as 1st-come-1st-serve for registration/ balloting up till Phase 2C, as long as you register before closing (3-4pm usually but don't leave it too late in case you've forgotten some documents which you must make another trip to submit!)mom76:
