Secondary School CCA

Hi Sall, thank you for your reply. Now I feel better knowing that UG is less popular and my DD was selected for Dance based on her good performance during audition. Will let her try Dance for 6 mths and who knows she may grow to like it very much and refuse to change after 6 mths. Ok, be positive!

Is the trophy for a non-SYF/nationals kind of competition? Maybe schools only acknowledge winners in nationals for sports and SYF for performing arts.
so sorri Jtoh for the late reply, am not following this thread,Augmum:
I have just joined this forum and read this thread... So i understand that to get minus 2 points off for 'o' levels my son has to get at least 20 points through the LEAPS system. But is there a preferred CCA my son should join to ensure he gets the points from participation & achievement (Representation, Accomplishment, Attainment)? Or he can join any CCA he wants to? I am asking this because i am rather doubtful about his CCA choice, He is is Maris Stella High and he wants to join the English Literature Society(ELS) ELS does debate & scrabble (YES THE BOARD GAME xD), If lets say he wins the scrabble competition will he gets the Achievement points? Thanks a lot

for that, yr son has to ask the teacher-in-charge.
not all competitions will etitled u to have some points.
last yr, my gal (in another sch) took part in a few CCA' scompetitions,
even with winning of trophy, the teacher-in-charge did not give any additional point for it

just happen today, am free to browse thru it again. (prob, u 're also not following it now)
anyway, the competition that my gal's team participated is a national kinda of comptetion.
just that there are many categories and happen that cat. is not awarded for points  -
Thanks Augmum. I wonder how the school determines which are the point-awarding competitions.

my kid has gotten in a cca which only require training for 3.5hr each week. And now he wants to switch to track and field cca which require to practice three times a week… The kis’s time management is bad so i am very reluctant to say ok…

Hi Herbie, it's alr the end of term 1, is he still allowed to switch CCA? For less demanding cca, pts given will be much less too. For sports cca, if the team wins, then maybe more pts? I'm surprised he needs to spend only 3.5 hr a wk, so relaxed.......

-
My kid says can still switch but got to alert the teacher this week... actually the cca which he is currently attending now is also a sports cca but got only 3.5hr of training... It is indeed relaxing and in a/c room...
I told him to think abt the switch to track and field cos the training hr is 12hr per week.. i am not sure whether he can cope when he goes to upp sec...and with all the homeworks and preparation for 'o'.

Sports CCA in an aircon room? Sounds like a luxury. What CCA is this?My kid says can still switch but got to alert the teacher this week... actually the cca which he is currently attending now is also a sports cca but got only 3.5hr of training... It is indeed relaxing and in a/c room...

I think you should let him make the final decision because at the end of the day, if he enjoys the CCA, he won't find the long hours a chore. But if he dislikes the CCA, even 3.5 hours is a chore. -
Fencing… i’ll let him make the decision and if he doesn’t like it later on, he will just have to bear with it.

Yes. As parents we just advise and let them learn. -
Hi jtoh,
May I check something abt CCA attendance with you, for RGS I aware that parent only can write an excuse letter up 3 times per year. If the child have student leader meeting or others activity (adhoc) then an excuse letter will be issued to the CCA that the child attend.
For the 2 scenarios that I quoted; is the child will be mark absent?
Thanks!
