My boy is attending the MPM at Tampines CPF building and I thought of changing him over to Simei since its more convenient for me.

However, I didnt have a good feel about the new place so I decided to let him continue in Tampines. He is in P2 this year and scored 93 for his Math last year which I thought was quite alright since he is quite playful.

So best is for you to visit the centres and decide if you are comfy with it.

        Hi jmm

Can check with you, how long yr child with MPM? Did you give him any assessment books, or you just rely on MPM and the shools homework? Do you tink MPM does help in his maths alot?

Sorry to ask so much, as I’m still wondering whether to place my K2 boy with the school.

        Thanks and best regards
        gsk

Has anyone’s child tried both MPM and Enopi’s lessons?

My child’s currently attending Enopi and we find the progress so far so good. Not too slow nor too fast(IMO, too fast will have adverse effect).

I’ve heard that MPM and Enopi’s method are very similar and I had thought to switch over to MPM’s since I seem to see one branch here at Bkt Timah but I need to seek confirmation, in order not to cause any confusion to my kid…

          Thks.

my boy tried enopi 6 mths, my #1 tried mpm 1 term.

both are colored wkbks, mpm spiral, enopi hierarchical.
mpm more creative but enopi more structured.
i hv switch from enopi to mpm, and may switch to jei for my boy.
but more upp pri, i still think normal tuition better becos the prob sums are heuristics, unique to spore system

I think MPM or enopi is ok if you are talking about pre-school. It helps to build up the fundamental arithematic skills. However, I agree with 24-hr mum, once in primary school, should look for something different as Singapore math are heuristic.

                    Hi GSK,

My boy doesn’t have time to do assessment books as MPM homework is to complete 16-18pages per week. I feel it is good enough for him. He is in St Hilda’s Primary and he had Math homework almost daily last year. This year is better.

I started him on MPM since K2 and I would say it did prepare him well for P1. He didnt do anything additional besides MPM and I would say scoring 93 is not too bad for him. Teacher Chris in MPM Tampines Central is very fierce and good so I guess it makes him think.

In this forum, Learning Lab, Andrew Er and Sponge are highly recommended.

                        My suggestion:
                        > Choose a centre that specialises in Math and not one that do everything e.g. Mindstretcher etc.
                        > Choose a class that has low student: teacher ratio. Unlike languages, Math is a subject that cannot be taught effectively in a class of varied capabilities.
                        > If possible choose a centre that do heuristic problem solving because this usually is the biggest challenge for children.
