actually, one quarter rgps girls entering RGS Secondary is … not a lot.

i would have expected at least … half of rgps girls to enter RGS.

anyway, that means … the remaining three quarters of RGS Secondary girls will come from … top, or at least near top girls from all primary schools all over the entire SG nation, scoring minimum around 262.

really, it’s like … cream of the cream end up in RGS Secondary, to compete at O level, at A level !

RGS don't do 'O' Level, they are IP with RI

Why would you expect at least half of RGPS to enter RGS? There's no affiliation between the two schools. RGPS girls enter RGS based on merit, like every other student in Singapore who applies for RGS.

And it is the top students in Singapore who are in RGS. The high COPs of schools like RGS and NYGH clearly show that.

Yes, most RGS Secondary girls tend to come from the 9 primary school GEP centres all over Singapore. And they tend to form individual clique / group.

that’s why you hear girls from … RGPS GEP clique, from Nanyang GEP clique, from Rosyth GEP clique, from St Hilda’s GEP clique, from Henry Park clique.

at RGS Sec 1, initially they separate out the GEP students from the normal mainstream, non GEP students.

Mainstream students at Sec 1 have to catch up, but usually no problem, because they are already very bright girls … by Sec 3, they are more or less on par with GEP girls.

OK i was from a neighbourhood primary school and I went to RGSS (many years ago of course). A lot of girls there during my time were from RGPS and HPPS. But becoz of the non affliliation, there were a lot of odd students like me from all over other pri schools too. So parents need not have to worry about sec 1 girls there forming cliques or what. if RGPS can form RGPS clique and HPPS can form HPPS clique, all the neighbourhood school girls can form a neighbourhood clique as well 🙂

That saying, I made some of my best friends there (now still in contact) and many were from RGPS. Dont have to worry about cliques or anything.

                  Hi greenbean2011,

Actually, we have not been confirm a place in RGPS.
We just been called for PV interview for 2013 enrollment.

So now trying to do more ground work to know the school and also to find out any tips to get selected in the interview. Not sure what kind of service they need for the school? :?

This is the first time we \"participate\"in this \"NATIONAL Primary School Registration Excerise\" so very blur here.

We stay quite far from RGPS so if don't do PV then sure no chance to get in. Also concern on logistic cos we are both working so if relocate very far then we will have a problem to bring her there.

Ya, we are secretly very proud of our gal Chinese. Somehow our hours of story telling and learning together paid off and she is quite a independent reader now for Chinese story books. Can see that she is very interested in Chinese Language thus thinking if possible we should start her in school that provide higher chinese so that her interest can grow from there.
Hi Bowie I have replied ur pm. If u have any further questions u can ask in this thread as my pc takes a long time to load pms.

Btw I admire ur dd's flair for Chinese. I have a younger daughter in N2 now and her Chinese absolutely sucks! She can understand but speaking is horrible. I am quite worried..

Haha from what I read here, u do have very high aspirations for ur dd hee.. Anyway I just felt the need to defend RGS as I really had a great time there, despite me not from any top-notch pri schools and not from well-to-do family.

I believe good schools can benifit children more, especially for late maturity kids. I really thank my parents spent a lot of efforts to give me a good study environment. I was once in a normal school, i know the difference of good and normal school. I just want my DD to be in a good enviroment for her health growing up, not too much higher expectation.

Not all RGPS girls are thinking of RGSS after PSLE. There are so many other options now like NUS high, NJC ,SOTA etc… unlike before where theres only RGSS and Nanyang to be considered.

Last years top PSLE scorer is neither in RGSS or Nanyang today. 😎
