Is it possible to score full marks for compo? My expectations must be very low then since I only pray for Ds to get 30 and above.

      Hi ksme

I think yes as dd had told me one girl (P5 top in level last year) score full marks during the SA2 exam.

Yeap, that is possible as last year my DS's classmate got full marks for compo (SA2 exam too)

It is possible to get full marks. DS' classmate scored full marks last year. So we asked her how she did it and she said \"memorize good compos\"... not to regurgitate but to increase vocabulary and to develop a feel of how the vocab can be used in context.

But it's terribly hard work and very tedious. For me, it is a last minute last ditch solution.

Definite-ly Not Something My Gal will Go For ....
We increase Vocab by playing word games, More Relaxing ....

I agree. I so agree. I am illiterate in Chinese. Am bilingual French-English only. Believe me, if I had the choice and the time... I would play word games too. Definitely no compo memorizing in English. I tried to get him to read in Chinese but because it isn't a phonetic language and he does not hear the language at home, he just couldn't engage and enjoy it because there were too many characters he didn't know.

This is an unpleasant option and very very hard to make it work. I had to use every motivation strategy I knew in creative combinations to get this off the ground.[/quote]Wah Like That U Must Be Real CREATIVE ....

            Hi Brenda,

Thanks. I'm hoping that's the case.....set tough paper as a wake-up call to parents & students. So far, DD only got her MT marks back....I haven't seen the paper yet but as expected, DD lost all her marks in her compre. Looks like we really need to work on her CL compre.

Like you said, we still have time to catch up, right? šŸ˜‰ Hopefully, my DD doesn't have many subjects to catch up with after CA1 results are back....keke

            Hi Tinkerbelle

Yes. Compre is never easy nowadays. Recently we also encountered 1 to 2 questions cannot score full marks even with help from adult and done at home. Hopefully they will be getting better by September after several months of practicing and learning.

Don't worry and I'm sure she will be doing well. :celebrate:

            Hello Tinkerbelle,

Am sure your dd will be able to do well , dont worry so much.
We focus alot more on compre during term one, and thought mcq are typical sets of questions, and proved to be wrong.

Will work on it.Hey, same to you, jia you, jia you.
            Hi Brenda & Leanne,
Thanks for your encouragement. Will ask DD to practice more on her compre over the march holidays.

We got it from Times Bookstore at Plaza Singapura. I think the March holiday has quite a numbers of shows inclusive of Gnomeo & Juliet's etc.
I’m sure they will be happy with all these shows. :celebrate:
Thanks Brenda. Will go and get the book for DD. Gnomeo & Juliet...sounds interesting....early exposure to Eng literature for the kids...keke

My son has been informed that he has to be in school for the Monday and Tuesday this march holidays.

Is this norm in other schools?
                Hi happiest,

DD's sch not having any supp lessons during the March sch holidays. Only need to go back during last week of June holidays and 3 days over the Sept holidays.

                  hi Tinkerbelle,

Actually i think that is better bec my son benefits most from one on one tuition rather than in a classroom situation.

i might consider writing in to his school to ask him to be excused.

DS got his CA1 marks. So dissapointing. Especially maths 70 marks. 😢 😢 😢 Says he lost heavily in paper 2. Not yet brought the paper home so I don't yet know where and why he lost the marks.

We have been using OnSponge and Conquer Maths and generally he was able to solve the problems. But when it came to past year top 10 schools he was not able to solve a couple of problems from Paper 2 and also not enough time to finish the paper.
How do I help him to improve his marks in Maths Paper 2 ?
Generally he used to score in 80s for his maths CA/SA. šŸ˜ž
Sometimes I hear about students jumping from B to A* and C to A from CA1 to PSLE, how to achive this? :?:

You mean you want your DS to be excused from all supp lessons in sch?
