Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

MOE merge schools for a number of reasons, and it is not necessarily because they are bad. There are many neighbourhood schools that do not have full enrolment each year but are actually good schools. My boy is 6 this year. I am very confused and lost as in which Primary School to register him for.
I'm a old gal of Jurong Primary School, but Shuqun Primary School is nearer to where I live. And I also heard that Jurong Primary went through a merge with another Primary School. Does it mean that the School is not so good? Not much students, that's why a merge is required?
But I have checked that Shuqun needs balloting for less than 1 km for year 2010. What if I did not secure a spot during the balloting?
Can anyone enlighten me on this? Your help is greatly appreciated.
As you are registering your DS this year, many options like PV or GRL are not available to you. Your best bet is to register at Jurong Primary in Phase 2A - secure his place there first. At Phase 2C, you can head down to Shuqun and look at the numbers. If you think the risk is worth taking, you can withdraw your DS from Jurong and give Shuqun a shot. If you think it's not worth the risk, then remain at Shuqun.
I am not familiar with the area and so I do not know of other schools in the area. Assuming you fail at the Shuqun ballot, what other schools are usually left with places after Phase 2C, and where MOE is likely to post your DS? If those schools are similar, in your opinion, to Jurong, then I think it's worth trying for Shuqun, as you have nothing to lose.
So have a good think about your strategy, your options and go for it without regrets! Good luck!

My girl is still years away from Pri 1 but I’m already thinking about which school to put her in.
My husband is an old boy of Nan Hua and I’m an old girl of Henry Park. The distance from our home to both schools is quite the same.
Just curious which school will parents put their child in if they are in our shoes? -

O ya. I asked colleagues and they also mentioned ChongFu is affillated with an association or something. And they also mentioned Northland Pri has becoming quite good now due to a principle transferred over from a good school? -

Understand Chong Fu is a school which drills students in Maths.
