Hi

I am in the NC (Neighbourhood committee), similar to RC except that this is meant for non-HDB residents.

The difference between the volunteers and Executive Member lies in the so called \"membership\" . To be an Executive Member, one has to register with the RC (your GRC) 1st. You need to be present for all bi-monthly meeting and if you are absent for consecutive 3 meetings without valid reasons, you are out of the ball game. I joined in Nov 07 and receive my Executive Member \"title\" in Apr 08. I have been \"active\" in attending the meetings, giving suggestions in meetings and participate in 90% of the activities.

For volunteers, one is not required to attending the meetings and is free to move around and assist in the activities. I doubt if one will be given endorsement letter but the RC will give you recognition if you are really active. Recognition in the form of appreciation thru Annual Dinner and certificate.

I don't think there is a one year period as I receive the email to apply for priority registration too given the fact that I have joined less than 1 year. It depends very much on your \"contribution\" to the RC/NC.

always good to get information from people who have experience!

so, to ensure i got this right - for private housing i would have to join the NC, not RC, and executive membership has no cap (i.e. there are only 'x' number of members at any one time?).

do you know if there is a time frame as to how long one has to serve as an executive member before being eligible for the endorsement letter for primary school registration?

      thank you!

yes, for pte housing, there is only NC and you need to check with GRC you belong to. Most impt, make sure that there will be no change to your GRC . There is no cap becoz usually very not many people know abt NC and those in pte estate hardly wants to join NC too.

Like I mentioned, I joined in Nov'07 and has been issued the Executive Member endorsement letter in Apr'08. Of coz, prior to this endorsement, the chairman will ask if there is any objection from the rest.
Hi Agent66,

I also like to join a NC, so I can also go to a CC for application? Both me & my husband are interested, can the both of us volunteer but under 1 name? Can my kids join us as well during the activities? To be an exec member, the chairman must have recognised that you are rather active right? Do you think that there will be \"competition\" to get attention? Just afraid that some volunteers may be bypass for some reasons. Also, once you are an exec member, they will automatically give you the endorsement letter for 2B? Do you need to ballot for your school of choice under 2B? Can I know which school you were targetting?

            Hi,

Wanted to check. For existing RC member, will they automatically send the letter of recommendation so that one can qualify to register under phase 2B?

Do they do it on an annually or do they track when the child is due before giving the letter?

PA will not automatically send out letter of recommendation. You will be given a PA account and you can send in your application for phase 2B through http://app.grassrootsconnect.org.sg/default.asp

As per PA guideline, it was mentioned that only committee members in RC/NC, CCMC & CCC are qualify under phase 2B. However, note that CCMC & CCC is by recommendation from SCM due to your performance & dedication as grassroots leader or your profession as lawyer or director. Getting into WEC, SCEC & YEC is easier but you need to find out whether these committee members are also qualify under phase 2B. You can call up any CCs and talk to the SCM for clarification on this issue.
                    Hi tegami,

Just curious, why does lawyer or director gets into the committee automatically? Any other professions endorsed?

                    Thanks & Best Regards,
                    chie

Hi Chie, actually this is my personal opinion.

Your SCM will normally recommend you into RC, WEC, CDEC, SCEC, CSC as observer. After serving observer for a certain period (normally in April), you will be appointed an executive member and will serve for two year. You will be re-appointed if your attendance is okie. If the SCM/ACM think highly of you, you might be appointed as chairman, secretary and treasurer.

For YEC (between 15 to 35 year old), you will need to stand for election between July to October depending in the date of their BGM. Once elected, you will go for a closed-door session where the elected members select the chairman, secretary, treasurer and committee member. After which, you will serve for two year until the next BGM.

CCC is the management team for constituency-based committee such as RC, CSC & CDEC while CCMC is the management team for community centre based committee such as WEC, SCEC, YEC, IAEC & MAEC.

The committee members for CCC & CCMC are normally previous chairman or other office bearer (secretary or treasurer) in constituency-based committee or community centre based committee respectively.

There is occasion where the SCM recommend individual who have been actively involving in PAP branch or professional with strong management skill into the CCC/CCMC.

Actually, it is the SCM who make the decision where he/she wants to assign the volunteers based on his/her requirements.

So just speak to your SCM to find out more.
