I suppose you have to gauge for yourself based on your child's development. Does the program really help your child, is he learning and how is he compared to peers. So far, I find their materials solid but I know we all learnt through trial and errors along the way to see what works best for our child.Hi MMM,
Thanks for getting back to me:)
I agree they are very academic, my DD in K2 also have spelling every week.
I read in another post that there is an experienced teacher specialized in teaching English and it is near my place: http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1131&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90
I am contemplating whether to start my DD, as we will save time ferrying her ( and in future with my 2 other children). But then the con is I find it quite costly- $55 per lesson.
Expensive doesn't mean it's good. What works for one might not work for another. I signed up my 2 older kids at TLL and while waiting for a place and put them at Lcentral first. Anyway no news from them and I am not bothered too. If Lcentral works for them, I will not move. To me, we don't need an expensive program, we need an effective program that works for them. -
I agree with you, one work for one, may not work for another. Will monitor and decide again.

Hi,
Hi,
I've PM you. I like teacher Leah as my son is currently taught by her. She makes an effort to mark their work thorougly and she appears to be very encouraging to me.
May I check which LCentral branch is teacher Leah with?
Thanks. -

Teacher told me that My K2 attends foundation first( He will start from today) then go to liftoff in Apr or May.
Thanks. BTW, which class is your K2 attending? I am thinking of switching my K2 for April class as well.bluefish7677:
Hi, I registered for my kids yesterday, you can check with LCentre.
thanks alot.
She is currently with Jan & Elly which she will complete her advanced phonics by June. She is also with LW english enrichment since K1. This helped her to read independently and introduce to more words but I feel that LW is not academic enough for P1 so I've been on the lookout. She just did the assessment and she has to do liftoff. Some part might be repetition but overall I think it's a good introduction given the comprehension, etc.... Though she knows her blending, it doesn't come automatically yet. So yes, most likely I've to switch her in order to ensure that she completes her lift off program by yr end so she is well placed for success program in P1. That means I've to give up my deposit in LW.

Do you know who is taking your K2? I just realised that Teacher Monica teaches my P4. I had a lengthy conversation with her last night and she seems very pleasant and down to earth type as well. She sounded very confident of their program. My P4 told us that quite a no. of her peers are in top class in their respective primary school (eg. hong wen and maris stella).

I think Monica is a very good teacher because my hubby had a lengthy conversation with her.
Teacher Leah teaches on Fri and only two kids in her class, so I let my kids attend today maybe can learn more.
Hope Teacher Leah is nice like what you said because we never seen her. -

Teacher Leah is much older. I've spoken to her before and similarly, I find that she is quite pleasant too. There was once, think she forgot the time and overrun by 15 mins and we were waiting anxiously outside as my P3 need to rush for his CL class. When I spoke to her, she even offered to help my P3 mark his compo if he does it on his own. Unfortunately we haven't got to that as too many things to do. But so far I've pretty good impression of her.Teacher Monica teaches on Wed and Thurs, at firt I wanted my kid to attend her class but I found there were 7 students in both two class.

Don't worry. I think both teachers are fine. My K2's class will have 9 being the maximum. No choice. I wanted her to complete her lift off by end of the year so she can move to success in P1. -

Thanks alot for your info.
Your k2 should be can complete her liftoff by this year. she was good at phonics and reading already.
when my kids can read independently I think itโs enough. -

Hi,
It's just the beginning. There are alot of things that can be done eg. choose appropriate books and read with the child daily. Very soon, you will realise that your child has pick up.
I was not so kiasu with my 2 older kids. They did attend courses but not very academic. Eg. my P4 only started learning phonics when she was K2. She was doing speech & drama at Julia Gabriel before that as I wanted to increase her confidence/ soft skills.... My P3 though he started phonics at K1 still struggles because we didn't do enough revision. We thought that learning at centre is good enough. Fortunately maybe due to age, they sort of pick up at P1 being able to read confidently,etc... But you know what, I was so shocked to see that some P1 can write grammatically perfect sentences during written expression (mini compo). My dream is to bring my K2 to that level but it's been challenging. My resources are tied up with the older kids so there is only so much that I can do with her everyday.
I think what we did was to try to start my youngest on enrichment since K1. We also do more revision with her to ensure that she has a good foundation. So compare to her siblings who can't really read at K2, at least we can see some results with her. But I was telling Teacher Monica that we hope to do it right with her after our experience with the older ones. I am still holding the hope that hopefully by P1, she can write grammatically correct sentences
