Order from Dangdang

Do you use the shipping services from Dangdang? Thought it seems exp.
if not any other cheaper shipping services? Vpost??
I dont mind waiting, more concern about the shipping cost.

I don't think you can use another shipping service, unless you have someone in China who can collect the books from DD and arrange for alternative shipping.

I think of it this way. 50% of the retail price for shipping would be like buying the book at China's bookshop retail price with a few extra rmb for shipping.

For example:
四五快读-幼儿快速识字阅读法(第六册)
When I ordered it, the DD price was 15rmb
Retail price is 19 rmb
Shipping cost is 19/2 = 9.50rmb
So total cost for this book is 24.5rmb. Which to me I see it as I'm buying the book at 19rmb and added 5.5 rmb for shipping which translated to SDG is about $1.15 for shipping. Which to me is still worth it because of the exchange rate to our advantage.

There is a minimum shipping cost of 50rmb that I have no problem hitting because of the wonderful books I can find there

Of course if you happen to be in China or has a contact in China, you will enjoy greater savings. Since I have no such contacts I'm happy with the savings I made using DD. This is just my opinion

Someone in this post joined a SMH spree, she was able to pay less I think. Maybe you want to check with her on her experience. I prefer to buy the books myself, more control [/b]

After asking a few questions to dangdang support (haha…im not usually a careful person), I finally felt that it was safe to order. I ordered for around 700RMB containing 11 books which included the famous Slam Dunk series which I used to read as a small kid. Here is the problem I face, the first time I payed with my VISA card I got the 您的支付遇到问题！请查看您的银行交易记录。 如果您确认已完成支付，请在一个工作日后查询订单状态或联系当当网客服，谢谢！problem. My bank said that there were no transfer of money so I decided to try again today. After writing my card number and confirming I got that message about the 你的付款成功，5秒后窗口会自动关闭。Just when I was happy that same error message came up again. I am really pissed. I cant wait until Monday so im asking with that 你的付款成功，5秒后窗口会自动关闭 message I should already have payed right? Has anyone else had this problem, and if they did how did they solve it? Thanks. (Dangdang support could not give me a clear answer)

Which Visa card did you use ?

For Visa card, you should see a page asking you to enter a secure code. For OCBC Visa cards, you will get a one-time-password sent to your handphone, and you need to enter that. Citibank Visa cards have a lot of problem, I don't advise other people to use it.

If you were not asked to enter any secure code, then most likely your transaction has failed. Note that this secure code feature has to do with your credit card issuing bank, nothing to do with dangdang.

It is easiest to pay by DBS Amex card, no secure code needed. The error message may still appear, but just ignore it (for Amex cards only) and wait for the confirmation email.

You are right. dangdang books can be discounted up to 30%, so paying 50% of the original book price for shipping is still worth it.

I think the cheapest is to join SMH sprees, but I really don't know how reliable those organizers are.

If you saw the 你的付款成功，5秒后窗口会自动关闭 msg it's ok, your payment is through. Just wait for DD to email you. Everytime I order from DD, I will rec this msg and 5 secs later the error msg. As to why, I don't know maybe it's because payment is processed via a third party and not DD.

Well, you will get I think 4 emails from them. The first one is about them receiving your order and is processing it, 2nd is and email asking you for your name, order number and credit card information, first 4 digit and last 4 digit for verification purpose, third email is to confirm that they have received your payment. The last one is that your order has been despatched out. It usually takes 3 -5 days.

Now that they are listed on the stock exchange they have change to 7 working days. But I have yet to test them during wkends so not sure. You can let us know whether your order is processed over the wkend.
