Can the mummies help me out here?

My P1 was with MPM for a yr since K2 and according to his MPM Marine parade he is doin well.his worksheets are quite few mistakes too. Now 3 mths into P1,his sch teacher told me he is weak in maths.i was surprised as he did well in MPM.

I have since qithdrawn himbfrom MPM but cant seem to find a suitable one in marine parade area.

I had enquired on JEI before but im afraid he will face the same problem again as it is self learning. No lecture style.

Do uou think mind stretcher is good?
      Any ctr tp recommend?

My K2 DD is with JEI. Actually, now it just dawn on me that JEI logo did have a term \"self Learning\". But I'm certain there is teaching involve because after every lesson the teacher spend quite a bit of time to explain to me what was taught. Some Q cannot have been done without teaching.

Actually, MPM would have taught basic arithematics which would be relevant to P1. Although MPM is not align to MOE, basic arithematic should be the same regardless. Most children weakness in Math is problem sums. At P1, problem sums are pretty direct, not heuristic. So I would still think MPM will be relevant.

You need to discuss with your DS teacher why he is weak. A teacher should not give sweeping statement like that and it is not very useful for parents. Maybe you can go to JEI for a free diagnostic test to find out which area your DS is weak in. šŸ˜‰

At Marine Parade there are other centres. Growan is pretty popular.

I just sign up my DD with JEI at Marine Parade. I looked at my DD JEI workbook now and indeed the logo have a "self learning" word printed. In saying that, I am 100% certain its not self learning because the teacher was definitely teaching. My DD was doing "time intervals" and I saw her tutor was using a clock to teach her. My DD is in P2 so on the second hour she do another programme called PSLE Math that train her on problem sums skills. This area definitely need teaching. No way it can be learnt through self learning.

Speak to Jason at JEI Marine Parade. He is pretty good at explaining.

This Sun, I will also ask him why the word "self learning" printed on JEI logo.

TIPS (1) FOR PRESCHOOLERS - SUBTRACTION

Instead of introducing subtraction in its raw form (e.g. 5-2=?), which is boring and involve 2-steps processing, subtraction concept can be learned in a fun and colourful way. Let the child trace the path of the snail by the amount you want him/her to subtract.

              http://postimage.org/image/isaor6pw/

You can do this at home with your children easily and it gets more interesting if you replace pictures with real stuff e.g. beads, erasers, cut out papers etc. For 3-4 yo, your priority should be on the \"fun\" factor. No need to get too worried if they trace the line wrongly. šŸ˜„

                Hi JEI PSLE MATH,

are you a teacher from JEI? If yes, that is great! šŸ˜„ Can you help to answer my queries? Does JEI prepares the child for problem maths? Meaning reading from the context and determine the calculation? Does the lesson moves in parallel with the child's ability and capability or must cover a fixed # of materials before moving onto the next step? What is the ratio of the class?

TIPS (2) FOR PRESCHOOLERS - PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS

Problem sums are like detective stories to be solved. Make the story interesting to the child. Example, in the attached picture, the story can be - 4 ships sailed to Mystery Island to look for treasures. However , only 2 ships returned home with treasures. Guess how many ships were still stuck in Mystery Island?

You can also seek the child to create a story of their own with the next picture. This way, the child gets to create their own problem sums, enjoy the session and your child will see Math as an interesting subject.

                    Answer: Yes

Does the lesson moves in parallel with the child's ability and capability or must cover a fixed # of materials before moving onto the next step?
Answer: According to the child ability. No need to do books that the child is already good in. No need to cover a fixed # of material to move to next level.

What is the ratio of the class?
                    Answer: 6:1

So is it true that children will do their worksheets themselves n teachers help only when they r stucked?

Is there a classroom teachin beforehand? I would think may not since everyone does diff worksheets

New concepts will need to be taught before the child can begin. Yes, after the concept is taught, the child will work on his/her own and the teacher will assist if they are stuck.

There is no classroom based teaching. Each child will be taught according to their own workbooks.
