Being quite a new ‘kiasu parent’, I only started my children in enrichments lessons this year. Now they are 5 and 7. My friend referred me into E.nopi Math and English. Now my children are more motvated to study and are more interested in studying. Previously, it was a chore just to get them to do any work.

The worksheets and colourful and full of activities. Although the lower levels so not really coincide with the local schools, it is a good supplement to what they are learning in school. I can see my P1 boy grasping the concepts faster. The critical thinking especially is fantastic.

It takes a lot of pressure off and I guess the most important thing is that they are improving and enjoying it at the same time.

BTW, I heard they having a free registration this month.

Enopi math is worksheet based. I find it boring for children. Worksheet based learning is equivalent to practice blindly which does not make it perfect.

Children should enjoy childhood. Experential learning or game based enrichment programs are better for children. Learning while playing is better than going for worksheet based programs such as Enopi.

I think this is quite subjective and depend on individual kids. Of course, we agreed that children should enjoy their childhood up to certain age. But when they reach the pre-primary stage, we will need to slowly build up their foundation. Some course with experential learning or game based may aroused the children but to kids, is still more of the fun and may not really triggered or registered in their head.

Ultimately, it stil depend on the calibre of the individual kid on what type of program suitable for them.

I feel that as long as they are children, they should enjoy their childhood. Their childhood should not stop at pre-primary level. Building foundation in children does not mean that we parents should deprive them of their childhood. Children can still play and learn at the same time.

I find worksheets based programs such as Enopi, Kumon etc do not give value for money because they do not actually teach the child concepts. Can they really understand concepts by just doing worksheets or are they just practising blindly? This is important as it sets the foundation for their future. They will struggle when they are teenagers.

              Yes, I second that.

Understanding concepts are important. My girl is with this maths centre which emphasize a lot on concepts building. Initially I feel that they do very little during the 1.5 hour class and start to worry... but I realize there are more teaching and explaining instead. But my girl enjoys the class... so I hope it is doing her good.

Hi Callie may I know which math centre your child is attending?

I have 2 girls, one 6 and one 5. I feel that I may need to send them, especially my 6 year old to some kinda math class as she cannot seem to
understand even the basics. I want a class that teaches basic CONCEPTS as I think that is what she needs now. Would appreciate any input/suggestions.

I think that doing worksheets is not practising blindly. THey are being enforce in the concept. Somemore, during the course, the teacher still enforce their concept and understanding.

Of course by doing worksheets etc is good... the kids will be exposed to different kinds of questions asked in many other different ways... yes most importantly need to explain to the concepts and the underlying principles to the kids.

Eg. when I gave worksheets to my girl on ordinal numbers, she got a few questions wrong because all she knows (she claimed that her school teacher taught her) is whenever she see the word \"before\", she will see the left number/name, when she see the word \"after\", she will look for the number/name to her right. However, we know this is not the case all the time... so we need to explain to her.

                      Hi all,

am looking for Math enrichment for my little one (lower pri) Prefer something that is more creative and fun but at the same time, will help her cope with her school work. Somewhere in the east. Does anyone have anything to recommend?
