visited the carpe diem at alexandra last week and till now i'm still thinking of it.. love the place..


let's think abt the cons 1st:
1) the outlook a little run down.. (quite kampong feel but actually I like this kampong feel cos it's so close to nature and something different from home/shopping malls/even our typical HDB parks
2) may hv mosquitoes, bugs, etc (hence center requires us to bring a bottle of insect repellent spray everyday, morning applied for the kid before we leave home and teachers will be applying for kids after bath and in the late afternoon)
3) bus-stop quite a distance away and need to cross the rather wide and busy road (via zebra crossing & traffic lights thou)
4) the narrow roads and small car park may not be able to accommodate too many vehicles, hence may be a little trouble for those who drives
5) fees on the high side, at least for our budget, this is the biggest deterring reason for us for now..

ok, let's see the pros that made me thinking about it days & nights:
1) once i stepped in everywhere is clean and neat and organised
2) a low teacher:students ratio
3) all of the teachers looked pleasant, energetic, and caring, seemed to be handling the tots well and happy..
4) most of the kids looked enthu in lessons
5) a good mix of nationalities in the kids, I believe this would broaden the kids cultural knowledge and learn to love others regardless of race
6) i like their lessons, all the drama/singing/arts/cooking/math, etc will be conducted in 1 english session and 1 mandarin session either in the morning or in the afternoon, really bilingual :lol:
7) there's live duck, chickens, rabbits and fishes in the center, i bet the kids would love them
8. i was being told that they will teach the kid on simple gardening too, love this
9) the kids will be sleeping on stack cots and not mattresses, the latter is rather hot and can be quite dirty most of the time, i like the cot they used

i'm still looking around for some more centers, but so far I rank this the top most in my list.. :love:

Nice analysis and summary of the CC. We liked the place too. We didn't think so much, visited, liked the kampong style. My child (then 16 months) immediately sat down with a bunch of N2 kids and played with them. The teacher was happy to have her joined the N2 kids until my child started to look for us after 30 mins or so, the teacher brought her to us. One teacher also carried her to see fishes with the toddler class. My child cried when we tried to bring her home later

Agree with your analysis. Hubby and I think that it's a nice place for well-rounded development of a child, not just intellectual. It has environment that we could hardly find in singapore anymore. We got good feedback from my neighbour who sent her daughter there.

Anyway, we enrolled my child already, but yet to send yet as she just turned 18 months. Will be interesting to hear comments from other parents who has sent the kids there. Will be interesting to hear your final decisions and analysis too

my 20mths old son just started his toddler class here this am, i was with him for half dae even though i registered him for full day, my observations as follow:


1) abt 2 teachers to 8 toddlers per grp but somehow, not sure if its cos of the age group, seems inadequate
2) saw children crying but sometimes no teachers bother to attend to them
3) alot of jostling esp when they are queuing up to move from place to place
4) teachers couldnt help/ hold hands of all toddlers so some are left alone to walk on their own which i thought is quite dangerous because for this age grp, they are still not tt stable in walking and there are lots of steps
5) a teacher was holding on to my son as they were queueing to walk into classrm and there was a bottleneck at the entrance and when she let go, my son fell down, i felt so heart pain
6) many activities were quite short so there were alot of queueing up to move from place to place
7) lunchtime was very messy as i think all students eat at the same time but teachers couldnt watch over all

not sure if im over-protective but this morn’s experience made me think twice abt this place but cos there is a 2 week trial period so i guess i just hve to let me son go thru the 2 weeks before making any decisions.

my child is actually currently at the royal road school. Has been there for about 10 months now. His mandarin has improved by leaps and bounds… from not really understanding what is spoken, to being able to reply in complete sentences. Credit to his mandarin teacher, and i suppose the fact that half of all their activities are replicated in mandarin.

Find that the teachers there are generally very enthusiastic, friendly and caring. Very responsive too. The school also arranges informal "breakfast with parents" sessions now and then, for the parents to spend some time with the kids at school and for teachers of the respective classes to give informal feedback, in addition to the usual parent-teacher sessions which happen maybe twice a year.

Am quite happy with the activities that they conduct too. The activities reinforce each theme, and the school returns the portfolio of art and craft which my son does, every now and then. Was pleasantly surprised to see some laminated pictures of my child during enjoying himself during water play, and doing some puzzles which were in line with the theme of that month. They are also bringing the children out to watch a play at the Esplanade this month.

It would be good if there were more feedback from other parents too, as to whether the teaching in the upper levels sufficiently prepares the children for primary school. That’s one niggling concern i have, so if there are any parents whose child has graduated from carpe diem kidz, we would be most grateful for your input / views!

My son is there for a few months already. He really like the school even though there is a LW nearby.

Why we like the school?

1) Open air
2) Lots of space for the kids to run
3) Home cooked food. At least no need to worry about food poisoning case. The best part is this. When my son was having my cough, we indicated in the booklet no chicken and no eggs. The auntie actually prepared porridge for my son. We really appreciate the effort.
4) My son is happy. Initially we thought he is going to be like the rest. Cry and struggle. In the end, nothing of that sort had happened. On the third day, he happily walked into the school.
