Criteria for a Good Childcare Centre
-
Pls help me to decide on this. Got to make a final decision now. Pls also do help by stating why, what is/are the reason for you to choose over that particular ccc. Thank you.
If you are me, which will you choose?
CCC (A) VS CCC (B)
1. New, spacious and clean VS Not as spacious and not so clean.
2. Only a few areas with CCTV but limited to staff view in the office only VS Has CCTV for parents to check out their children fm anywhere.
3. Outdoor play would be HDB playground etc VS Has their own compound with slide and tikes/go-cart etc (but looked quite old under the
exposure of sun).
4. Flexibility in allowing kids to stay till parents are available when not feeling well (except for fever, HFMD etc) VS Not flexible, very strict (which is a plus and minus point too).
5. Got to walk quite a long distance (no direct bus) - if heavy rain or not feeling well, big headache VS Got to walk a short distance, take a free direct bus and walk a short distance again.
6. Still got vacancy VS On waiting list.
7. About the same now as ccc B has increased their fee.
8. Other factors like the quality of the teachers and curriculum not sure.

point 1 - environment must be conducive for learning and playing.
point 2 - not so impt 'cause even they hv CCTV for parents, guess it will be only for common areas. to hv it in the classroom creates too much distress for e teachers. -
Yes, I agree, KeenDaddy, and thanks for your respond.
But it is very difficult to gauge their curriculum, each has their pros and cons and as for the teachers, it takes time to really know them. -
From your details, i would choose CCC A.
1.Cleanliness- Give you quite an impression on what the center is like and if they take pride in whatever they are doing. Also if it’s not clean, probably their hygiene standards aren’t as high either.
Therefore A is better than B. Also, the space is bigger= more activities could be conducted?
2. Playground. Unless you are very particular, nothing’s wrong with HDB playground. And anw even if the CCC don’t bring the kids to the playground there i m sure you would bring your child to a public playground.
3.Distance & Fees- If you don’t mind the distance of A, why not? Anw the fees are lower?(is it?)
4. Errr flexibility in allowing kids to stay… Not very good but if they have a "sick bay" i guess it’s alright?
5. There is vacancy in A which means you can get a place immediately.B you are on waiting list and may not get a place…
But ultimately, i would say the teachers are the MOST important.
No matter how well furnished, how popular the center etc etc, if they have lousy teachers there’s no point in everything else. -
unbelievable story! You should withdraw your child long time ago once you find they gave too many excuses and irresponsible!

Hi all,
Some pre-school learning centres say that they are \"MOE Registered\". May I know how can I verify this?
I look at http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/preschool/ but only able to find an excel file for \"Kindergarten Profiles\".
Also, how do I check the license period for these centres?
Please advise and Many thanks in advanced!
Cheers, Pan -

Not going to write the full name in case of some lawsuit whatever...Have to guess what school is that.
Hi Oppsgal,
Have you found a good CCC for your gal yet? Hope to hear good news from you. I am appalled by the safety measures of the previous CCC. Safety is my top priority.

hi, need some help regarding this issue…
I’ve requested to look at how the lessons are conducted in a cc (I’ve kinda decided to put my child in), but was told I can only watch through the glass window outside the centre. my intention is to see how the class management skills and whether the teacher is strict or lenient so as to prepare my child for better adaptability to the new environment. the previous cc allowed me to stay with my child for the first 3 days but this cc does not allow. would like to know is it a norm for such practice?kindly advise. -

Actually different CC operate differently. I've heard of CC which allow parents to observe from glass window only. More common CCs are those that allow parents to stay for first 3 days. Anyway if the teachers know that a parent is observing them regardless of glass window or person herself, they will normally be extra careful and act very good. -
Problem with staff at Childcare centres are that they often do not see what they do as a long term commitment. I find that for most centres, it is hard to find good staff like what was mentioned earlier. Hence, for me, what is important is that there is open communication with staff and there are clear glass windows to observe what is going on.
I also talked to my kids to find out what went on in school.
