normally what time of the year is there an open house for NYGH ?
The saturday just before June holidays or 1st week of June holidays, if my memory serves me well. -

Yes, calligrapghy is incorporated into their chinese lesson. but heard that only for a few lessons this term.I saw my DD1 doing Calligraphy homework every weekend (one piece of paper per week). It's not for CCA; she's in St John's (didn't get into Guides; appeal also got rejected 'cos this yr Guides has max intake). You mean your DDs didn't do any Calligraphy ? :? Her whole class is doing the Calligraphy - may be just for this term ??
I know she mentioned some questions are optional for Math, but since she likes Math, she'll complete all her questions.
Last few days saw her doing the ICT powerpoint slides. Today's her Geography test; saw her reading her Atlas and worksheet yesterday. Think she got some other tests coming; she had chinese essay test last week already. Nowadays she's managing her homework and tests. So I don't even know she's got tests until I saw her reading her book/ worksheets instead of watching TV. She likes NYGH and is enjoying writing to her angel (she has already found out who is her angel).
My DD also tells me tests and quizes coming out. I let her study and revise on her own, if results are not satisfactory, then, will monitor more closely. if she can cope, then, all the better for me.
She also writes to her \"angel\" quite frequently and asked her angel for notes and test papers. I think it's good and the angel is also willing to share. happy that the school has this system in place. -
Is there any tests like the normal CA in March for NYGH ?
-
Mom-of-2,
I think already got Math, Geography test, chinese compo. Sometimes, marks awarded for some pieces of work (ie. not formal class test); my DD1 also blur - she said must consistently do well 'cos she also cannot remembers whether marks counted or not; got class participation marks too.
Her teacher gave them chocolates on Valentine’s Day 'cos she believes they’re still too young to have bf and mentioned that sometimes when they cross over the bridge, already got couples after orientation. DD1 also brought home chicken burger (a few wks ago) and chicken kebab yesterday after her home econs lesson - she’s enjoying herself ! Glad she’s happy and adjusting well to Sec1. -

NYGH open house 2011 on 21 May 2011, from 8 to 2pm. Programme is available from school's website. http://www.nygh.moe.edu.sg/ -
Is it true that student is NYGH can not take both 3rd lang and HMP when they reach Sec3? i.e they have to drop one of the subjects. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
-
LLK,
Just checked with my DD1 who is in Sec 1; she confirmed that one of her classmates taking AEP is taking 3rd lang now but has to drop it in Sec 3. Guess HMP also the same. The reason is "no time" 'cos got many subjects/projects, CCA, talent development programme, etc.
Anyway, quite a number of students drop 3rd lang when they reach sec 3. It’s not easy to cope with so many subjects and projects. -

Ningy, Thanks. I think even they drop 3rd lang in sec3, it is still good for them to learn a new lang for 2 years. Young people like them likely will pick up new lang quite fast:)LLK,
