[Bukit Merah] Primary Schools

lady:
seems that radin mas primary school is very hot in bukit merah... didn't hear much on gan eng seng primary school, is it not good?
Radin mas pri is indeed quite hot, but I dun understand why. In terms of PSLE results, it was not outstanding at all. I have given tuition to Radin mas students and I find their worksheets, prog, homework etc about the same standard as other pri schs.
It is not fair at all to say gan eng seng is not good, my dd studied there, she did v well for psle and she's in sec1 this yr. They have a lot of interesting prog and the trs are dedicated. The principal is a young lady with a lot of drive. You should go to the school's website to check out the prog and activities of the sch. -

Yes, agree with you that Gan Eng Seng Pri they are having new Principal & Vice Principal. They performed well in PSLE in 2009 with aggregate points of 275. Thier website is very interesting, I had explored on it.Radin mas pri is indeed quite hot, but I dun understand why. In terms of PSLE results, it was not outstanding at all. Notice that this school would be a black horse in the Bukit Merah. This school is good where there is BASC run by YWCA & it is only allow for existing students. -

You maybe want to consider PV on Gan Eng Seng & Zhangde as next year there would have many new flats going to be completed. One at Kim Tian Road & another at Havelock Road.Hi all,
My only daughter is 2006 born. Iam yet to decide b/w CHIJ & Radin mas. Both r <1km. I need to apply in phase 2C. Pls help me in choosing the school & the posblty of gettg into it. Else do i have to register for PV? -
Thanx everybody. My daughter is 2006 born, is the PV regn in RMPS for that batch too is over? What are the factors that one should consider whl selecting the primary school? Becaz iam still in confusion b/w CHIJ & RMPS.

Depend on how you look at it. Some people would based on the following considerations but may not be exhaustive
(1) Distance
(2) Gender Co-Ed or Single Gender
(3) Profile & Performance of Principal
(4) Past PSLE Performance Indicators
(5) Cultural (More towards English or Chinese pattern)
(6) Brand of school (Eg GEP, SAP, Popular Neighbourhood School)
The forum have quite many discussions, I believe if you floow this Bukit Merah thread you can find most of the answers in here. -
I have agreed with what SALL has mention. :celebrate:
My boy is doing well at GESP.
I think it might be due to the location that made it not so popular compare to RMPS. And the estates there are rather old. Only a few block of new flats around there. -
Hi
i called RMPS reg PV(2006 born). they told they will call all PV applicants by nov’11 for an interview. Then v have to complete 40 hours between Jan - 30thJun '12. Is this is the usual one? -

Following copied from \"Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools\" thread:
CHIJ Kellock seems to have better PSLE results (plus affliation to CHIJ St Teresa). The following data are from public sources.
Year / % A-A* for EL/MA/SC/CL / Reported Mean PSLE
CHIJ Kellock
2009 69.4% 56.5% 50.5% 84.4% 216.4
2008 71.8% 57.1% 51.5% 83.1% 220.2
2007 67.7% 60.2% 47.8% 80.6% 217.5
Radin Mas
2010 58.4% 46.1% 50.9% 81.2% 202.2
A very important comment on the reported mean psle scores. CHIJ Kellock is likely to have reported for those taking 4Standard subjects (ie no foundation students) whilst Radin Mas is for all students. The difference between the 2 methods is big for most average schools (small for very top schools since few students take foundation subjects).
One would have thought that the national average t-score is 200 but from various school slides, the national average for 4S students is about 207 and that for All (including foundation) is perhaps 195-198 range. but many schools report \"average\" of 4S scores. The other implication of a national average significantly below 200 is that one should avoid taking foundation subjects if one can help it (ie must at least be able to pass all subjects).
My estimate based on 2009 Kellock % and 2010 Radin Mas % is that the Kellock is only better by 7 points. -
