Hi, anyone's DD going for DSA in RGS through GEP domain or know anything about it?

I just want to confirm that application period for RGS DSA is from 25 April to 8 Jul 2011 and GEP students are encouraged to submit their application by 26 May 2011. This is as stated in the website http://www.raffles.sg/schedule.html?

There is this girl in DD's school who goes around saying that application for RGS DSA has started on 26 Mar and hinting that she has \"insider\" info. This is making some of the kids in DD's class anxious as they do not want to miss the application date.

Follow the dates stated on the RGS website. Anyway it doesn't matter if you submit on the first day or the last day, they'll still look at all applications. The girl in your dd's class is probably just trying to make the others worried.

Tks, jtoh. I have the same feeling too as I have checked and re-checked the website but since DSA is an impt thing, I thought better to seek confirmation from other sources. This is the same girl who told DD she already has a place in NUSH...
So fast can know she got a place in NUSH already ah ??

My dd's year there was a mother who went around spreading rumours too to get the mothers and kids worked up.

Told DD to be discerning about the information and even if the child is confident of getting DSA into whichever school, until he/she gets a confirmed offer in black and white, nothing is really confirmed.

However, I can also understand DD's anxiety. Imagine if you keep hearing your classmates getting offers from these top schools and you are left out in the cold, it is definitely not good for her self-confidence and that is when self-doubt will creep in...

Isn't it just the one student who's claiming that applications are open and that she got offered from NUSH? Tell your dd that she just wants to make everyone else gancheong. Also it doesn't matter what's happening with other people because the schools will look at your application even if you apply on the very last day. It's your merit and ability that they're looking at, not whether you apply first or if you can boast louder. 😉

Tell her to put in the effort and the rewards will come. Don't get distracted by these wu liao people.

Just told DD that I have double confirmed and we are going to follow the dates on the website. DD said she wanted to go back and tell her classmate off. I told her don't bother - no need to waste anymore energy on people like her.

Yes, no need to waste time on those people. She'll probably cook up a story to make your dd feel inadequate again. For now, your dd should just focus on her SA1.

some sec schools started recruiting for sec one students while they are still in pri 5 by organising camps, courses, etc etc

don’t be surprised that the principals actually talked to those who did well in the camp and courses and tell them something equivalent to "if you put in the DSA form we will definitely offer you a place"

so it is not too fat fetched for a kid to tell her / his friends that she / he has got a ‘place’ at so-and-so school via DSA. those camps and courses are meant to give them a distinct advantage…and these kids are pre-selected by the sec school based on certain criteria
