Since I'm the TS of this thread, thought I'd give an update.

We decided to go with a private instructor simply because DW can't afford the long traveling time to Ubi/Woodlands driving centre. We looked around for some time and finally found an instructor who is based in Toa Payoh. DW would take a train to Braddell station to meet the instructor.

Well, this instructor started off fine initially. But eventually, DW can't tahan him after a couple of months of lessons and we made a switch.

What we didn't like about him:
      1) Never punctual - he ALWAYS picked up DW late, and ALWAYS drop her off early. We thought this was common with all instructors since they have to rush off to pick up their next student...

      2) Always on the phone - making/changing appointments with his students

      3) Frequently make stops during lesson to chat with friends or to buy breakfast

      4) Chit chat a lot during lesson and worse....made sexist remarks or even cracked \"coloured\" jokes!!

Another major factor which prompted DW to switch instructor is because the first instructor goes to the Ubi circuit for training and test. DW doesn't like that circuit because the surrounding roads are narrow and traffic in Ubi area is very heavy.

So for the second instructor, we specifically looked for one who goes to the Woodlands circuit. We hunted high and low for some time, and finally settled on one who lives in Yio Chu Kang area. So DW will start and end her lesson at YCK MRT.

And my goodness, immediately we found this instructor to be the exact opposite of the first instructor! Whatever the first instructor is, this instructor is not!! He's absolutely punctual, makes minimal phone calls, no idle chit chat, and no stoppage during lesson! We were so glad we made the switch!

So to cut a long story short, DW passed her practical test 2 weeks ago on her second try. Now I get to be chauffeured around on weekends. 😉

:rahrah: :congrats: :rahrah: to Mrs BigD!!!

Waaaah, shiok arhhhh, you get to be driven around. With my DH, when I first got my license 3 years back, I had to brazenly tell him I want to drive the car every time we went out. Then, on top on that, he would behave exactly like a father, telling me I should/shouldn't do this or that while driving

But I am glad that I took the initiative to drive in order to chalk up confidence and experience. Today, DH tells me that I am a safe and stable driver and is comfortable enough to just doze off while I drive 😛 😄

Do you try to correct her driving while she's behind the wheel  😄

            Thanks, AB. 😉

DW is such a new driver that she hardly goes over 50kph. The only time I get gancheong is when she tries to switch lane. :scared:

Other than that, I know better not to criticise her driving.

Hi, I had my driving license for more than 10yrs but i seldom drive…

                  I just phobia of accident…

anyone has the similar problem? and how did u manage to overcome and start driving again?

I did refresher once… but still didnt manage to re-start it…

Now, need to ferry my kids to school. Any recommendation for a good private driving instructor? I am staying in the west.

my instructor was quite good, in that both my brother and i passed at the first test under him… and i must have saved quite a bit, passing my test just days before my PDL was going to expire. I remember i spent just shy of $400 from registering for basic theory till paying for the first license…

but come to think of it, that was a really long time ago (almost 24 yr actually!!), so i doubt the instructor is still around teaching…

Hihiz, I am also looking for a private instructor whose rate is reasonable, patient and willing to teach. I stay in Sengkang area, and planning to take on auto driving. Anyone who has any recommendation can PM me or leave a comment here. Thank you so much 🙂
