Hi Reenie again... I see you found your way here yourself.... i am new to the forum, i happened to chance upon this thread when i was searching for SHHK information.

My wife is the SHHK member, not me. She has already threatened me with bodily harm if I make another request for her to help endorse anyone's SHHK application, on top of the dozens she has done over the past 2 years, so let's not go there.
The SHHK is HUGE. I have been to their annual family day event at the Singapore Expo and it seems like half the population of Singapore is Hokkien. It is well run, and offers lots of cultural Chinese programmes that are very suitable for Primary school children. Joining the SHHK for these programmes is already very worth it - with the Phase 2B benefit as the side bonus

Hi! Just want to check my chances of getting the recommendation letter from SHHK. My official join date for SHHK is beginning of 2008 though submitted in end of 2007. What are my chances of getting the recommendation letter for Kong Hwa?

Registering for P1 this year -
One of my friends registering her child for P1 in Kong Hwa this year told me the min requirement for SHHK is 2.5 years of membership. But don’t hold me to that though, I just heard from her. THink they should be giving out the letters soon right? Today is last day of 2A2 liao…

hi Luanee,
how come your fren get to have all these info ? I tried calling SHHK 2 days ago and their lips are tight. All they say is that the manangement committee in SHHK will be having a meeting this Thursday to decide who they will give out the recommendation letter to. if you are successfully being recommended, the school of choice will call you to register for Phase 2B next week.
good luck to all phase 2B parents ! it’s a nerve wrecking experience ! more gan-cheong than winning toto ! -
Does that mean that those members who are gg thru P1 registration this year will actually put their names up so that SHHK knows who are the interested parties?
Sure sound like a stressful exercise and you probably got to be visible inorder to let them know you to recommend you??? -
HI MMM
All SHHK members who wish to register their child for P1 will need to fill up an in house application form and indicate the choice of school within the Huay Kuan’s umbrella.
The internal committee in Huay Kuan will have a meeting after Phase 2A2 results are out and determine who they will recommend. The selection critieria is no. of years the person has joined the clan and the level of participation (meaning volunteer work) done at Huay Kuan.
Hoe you are clear now. -
Lucky:
Lucky, she didnt get this info recently. She got this info a few yrs ago and hence she joined the SHHK 2.5 yrs ago in order to meet the min requirement. Anyway that's what she told me.hi Luanee,

hi Luanee,
i think there is no hard and fast rules on the no. of years cos every year will differ according to demand and supply.
I remember I read in previous thread that for one particular year for Aitong, you need to have min. 4 years of membership tenure before they will even give you the letter.
Generally, the longer the tenure, the higher the chance of getting the letter.
Once again, good luck to awaiting letters parents ! It looks like getting a job after the interview…ha ha.
