Hi,

I think that you can call up the centre and understand more and arranged for the assessment. I am not quite sure whether now still at zero cost.
Hi Monster Mummy, ds did the assessment already. He was close to getting to TCS coz he did very well for assessment but assessor thought he was still too young to join in the older kids…

Understand TCS can have children from 3.5 to 5… ds is only gg 3 in 1mth+…that was her reason.

I called AMK branch and they didn’t have little learners so they said all children assessed would basically start at TCS…even ds. Unless the child cannot even settle down there independently…

Cannot comprehend how 1 centre says ds can try TCS but another branch says that bcoz of age, he should not join TCS. sigh sigh~~
Little learners are more for the younger children. But if the child is close to TCS, normally, it should be quite okay. Because for TCS is like fun and learn phonics for 26 letters. I think no harm because starting from this stage, it is the kid learning curve and progressively promoted at their pace. LIke my gal take at least 6 months from TCS to PRP. One year to PRP, by the time she reach the PRP, she is 5 yrs 2 months. She started around 3 plus.

No worries unless you would like to wait because the child is still considered relatively young. No hurry to rush them.

I agree that it's ok to wait and no hurry to rush them. Best if u can introduce sounds of letter at home. My niece started PRP at ard 4 years 10 months, and 2 mths later, she was promoted to ICR. Prior to that, no other phonics class, mummy just bought books to read and work with her. In my opinion, she saved quite a lot of $$$...

Issue is…ds already getting exposure to letter sounds in childcare…so my reason for putting him ICR is to further strengthen them…At times, I go thru with him at home too.

I will sign him up for little learners and see how he progress from there. Spoke to the teachers…if he copes very well in class, he may progress to TCS within a term.

Most importantly is he doesn’t get bored.

Ds just attended 1st class with kovan branch…hubby commented that hez nt impressed with what they do in class as he seemed to be playing half e time…plus reading a story n doing a worksheet.

All of which is covered in his childcare. Hubby said itz like playgroup.

Think if he can be put in tcs,he’d b able to learn more.

Today ds brought home a worksheet he did-some tracing to follow.not sure if he did zigzag by himself but i know my son can hold his pencils very well. Duno wat else they wana see frm him…Sigh~

I don't think you can see result in just one lesson. You should check with your kid to see if the class is enjoyable. I think that they will learn if they enjoy it. Both of my kids in ICR AMK. They enjoyed the lesson and you can see result after some time. They will be able to read a storybook themselves.

my girl had been there for almost 1yr+ & now shes under the TCS group. can see a lot of improvements in her now. she's able to pick up words n sounds in a few mths after attending.

                        Hi deardear07,

If you feel that your child is kind of ‘wasting’ time there and think that he’s actually ready for the next higher level (but the teacher has concerns…), perhaps you can suggest to the teacher (probably after a few lessons) for him to try 1 or 2 lessons in the next higher level. If he can adapt well, then perhaps the teacher will allow him to stay on the higher level. If not, you have to decide for yourself if it’s worthwhile to stay on in the current level or wait for a while till he’s accessed to be ready for the next level.
