      LLK,

Just checked with my DD1 who is in Sec 1; she confirmed that one of her classmates taking AEP is taking 3rd lang now but has to drop it in Sec 3. Guess HMP also the same. The reason is \"no time\" 'cos got many subjects/projects, CCA, talent development programme, etc.

Anyway, quite a number of students drop 3rd lang when they reach sec 3. It's not easy to cope with so many subjects and projects.
Ningy, Thanks. I think even they drop 3rd lang in sec3, it is still good for them to learn a new lang for 2 years. Young people like them likely will pick up new lang quite fast:)

NYGH's higher music programme (HMP) is the same as other schools' MEP. They will take O level in Music in Sec4. you can find more from NYGH's website.

Hi, I am a student myself and is more kiasu than my parents. and i would like to ask if the accept rate of nygh via dsa is high. I have joined SMBO and doesnt know the results yet. I got bronze for smops. also, is nygh hard to get in via appeal or whatever? I feel quite scared of the PSLE and is there any tips for my questions? any replies would be good.

I guess bronze is not really enough for dsa or appeal to get in nygh. The best is to do well in psle and try to get at least 260 t-score. just relax n focus on preparing your psle, starting from today. you will do well if you put in extra efforts. wish you good luck:)

From my DD1’s DSA experience last yr, it seems like if you’re from the mainstream the acceptance rate for DSA is not as high as GEP. My DD1 didn’t even get a bronze for SMBO but she had done well in her school exams and Bilingual Olympiad (organised by NYGH), so she was accepted via DSA.

NYGH’s DSA process is quite simple, just compile and submit your file (sch results and other accomplishments/ awards), GAT test and interview (if necessary).

Last yr, according to my DD1’s friends who attended the interviews, the interviews were conducted in groups of 5 students (not sure, forgotten the exact number) in front of a panel of Principal and 2 or 3 teachers. The student would start with intro and talk abt her accomplishments/ awards. Eg. if the Principal saw the ‘Prefect’ badge, she’ll ask about the Prefect criteria, etc.

The students were given some soft toys or objects to choose and then explain why she chose that object.

The Principal and teachers were very friendly so the interview was like chit-chat session. So, the interview session was actually quite fun and not scary at all !

Wish you good luck. Hope you’ve got good SA1 results.

That’s interesting. New principal has new creative ways of conducting dsa interview. My DD’s past dsa interview was quite different.

Mdm Heng is very well liked by the students in NYPS & NYGH. Many of the NYGH students now were her students when she was principal at NYPS
