Can anyone help to detail the relative advantages and disadvantages of LED versus Compact Fluorescent Lights?

      Cost
      Durability
      Consumption

Can LED lights fit into a normal light fixture?

      Thanks!!

I ever spoke to someone who manufactures LED related things and he said that based on today’s technology, the saving of LED vs energy saving fluorescent lighting is not significant.

It still takes a few yrs of use before u can breakeven and if the LED light fails before that, whatever u invested in is gone

but LED can be used for other purposes…like reading light…or ambience lighting or showcase lighting…they usually run cooler

Look at some of the newly upgraded lift lighted by LED lights. After few days, the light turned pinkish or bluish, and not as bright as initial.

Think electronic ballast with normal tube still better.

but for that application it’s quite OK since in reality, we don’t need the lift to be brightly lit. Also, think most HDB lifts lighting is 24/7 so they can realise their saving faster as long as the LED doesn’t fail.

What I meant is when the LED light was used initially in the lift, they were white color but after a while turned pinkish or bluish. If such LED light are use at home, I'm afraid it may be the same.

not sure what LED they use but it is possible they using a combination of coloured LED to get white. So when any of the colours ‘weakens’, the tone will be off.

LED is definitely cheaper and better…

Multiple tests has shown that LED lights saves more energy and fluorescent lights, and it is much brighter.

The only downside is that it is expensive to buy and install. But give it a few years, the price should drop.

You can see that LED lights are being used in traffic light, running 24 hours. It’s bright and saves costs for LTA.
