When the students get to university they'll have to contend with even more foreign accents. I remember my lecturers had Indian accents, Sri Lankan accents, Pakistani accents, Irish accents, Scottish accents... Makes your lectures quite unforgettable.

our local u are also facing similiar problem with foreign-accented English for quite some time already and I saw from a forum discussing this. One undergraduate complained that at times his PRC classmates ask/answer questions in Mandarin with the PRC lecturer and this poor guy thought he's attending a chinese lecture instead :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: -

Yes, No offence to anyone but I remember I had a hard time trying to figure out what some of them are saying during the uni lectures.
Think for uni students, even though struggle to understand but still won't be so bad as for priimary school students. Primary school students' command of English may not be strong in the first place since they are so young so they may be further confused. -
Seems now they only teach Sec and JC level?

Yah. At university we just relied on written notes to make sense of what was being said.jtoh:

i dont mind british indians or american indians cos’ they speak better and accent is definitely nicer and easier to understand.
some india indians are educated overseas so they are pretty okay as well.
however, i do need a bit more time to fully understand what some australians said as well. -

Yah. At university we just relied on written notes to make sense of what was being said.[/quote]Once had one with a French accent and he doesn't give out written notes. Just scribbles on transparencies as he speaks. We were all frantically trying to decipher his handwriting and make sense of what he is saying before he removes the transparency that he's scribbling on. :roll:linden2000:
