I am not their parents or teachers, so I don’t know why they got 240+. But GEP selection is not based on Chinese, so this might be the subject that they did not do well. As some of the parents also mentioned it here that some GEP kids think too much when they are answering science questions. It is normal that A FEW GEP kids did not do that well in PSLE. Everyone has their good day and bad day, right?

Hi Dharma, the major maths topics are the same but GEP goes much deeper on each topic.

In fact, some of the topics/concepts the GEPers were exposed to were not even in Sec sch syllabus. It is not like, being taught 1 or 2 years ahead (ie. in advance), it is really, 'depth'.

yes, totally agreed. Some are more like maths competition type problems.

Anyone has any idea what they test in the math domain in the next round of the RI 1/2day selection test? My son is called in for it on Sat 11/07.

Did they only test Math, or were there any interviews etc.? Also, if the domain is English, any idea what they test?

She has received congratulation from NUSH. For SMO junior, I have never heard of that.

Hi sunnyrain, I am curious, how and where to register AMC8 competition in China? if I want to register AMC8 competition for my daughter in Shanghai of China. any idea? thanks!

As for SMO Junior, it is open for all secondary students, not for primary student, if you have math talent and want to register SMO junior, you need to register individually at NUS or some math tution centres. There is no registration in any primary school. the difficulty of SMO junior questions is slightly higher than AMC8, but below AMC10.

From what I know, only the Affiliated Middle School to Jilin University in Changchun held AMC8 in China. Why not just take AMC8 here, it’s more convenient.

After PSLE, we will go back Shanghai, but AMC8 will be held on 17 Nov 2009, so we must come back before that day, otherwise, we may stay longer and take AMC8 competition in China.
