Anyway child should be able to enrol based on the Hougang address which is further from school. Won't be using the caregiver route coz we don't meet the criteria.

Whatever you do, just ensure that you go by the law. Don't do anything illegal just to get your child into the school.

Are husband and wife allowed to have different address in our IC (one HDB, one private) when we register our kid for primary school?

i think this has already been discussed in this thread earlier. No, not allowed if both husband n wife is staying together.

If you rent an apartment within 1 km of the school, is there a minimum time you need to rent it for before the primary one registration (i.e. how many months before the July Registration Exercise) & can you rent it for only 1 year?

min rental period is between the landlord & tenant.

                Hi Mummy Bear

In Feb, my tenant rented my apt within 1 km of ACS to register her DS in that school. Initially the Tenancy Agreement signed with us was for 1 year but the school required her to sign a minimum 2 years lease to enable her DS to register. She requested for a new TA for 2 years.

                Hope this info helps.

met up with some friends on monday and was told that starting this year, there are some changes to the way the schools check the address of the applicant.

heard that the school might ask for the telephone bills (at least 6 months) upon registration. this is to prove that one is geniunely staying at the place and not some "short term" residents.

unsure if this is true or old news, as i dont see this on the MOE website. but thought i should share it and parents might want to call schools to confirm.

                    i think it is useless.

past 6 months staying there does not mean future 6 months still staying there. Having a phone line also does not mean staying there. I do not have a land line to my current home since all of us have mobile.

regardless of the usefulness of the phone bills, my post is to let parents know that schools might ask for documents not listed on the MOE website.

as fat mama said, her tenant was asked by the school to show a minimum 2 years lease in order to register and this i dont think is listed on MOE website.

so it might make sense for parents who are thinking of renting a place to check with school first rather than get a place and find themselves out of the game.

it is better to be safe than sorry especially with so many condos springing up and competition is heating super fast up.

I called MOE last year (2010) when ds was enrolling for P1...

                        - no min period of staying before the registration period

                        - official response fm MOE is that if \"you shd rightfully stay in the same address for the next 6 years\"..............they will only tell u like this....but of coz we all know that that's probably not practical

For this year's P1 registration, i'm not sure if rules hv changed, u can call them.
