Thank you all. I have signed my son up for their OCS course! They seem confident that their course will be effective so I decided to let my son try. Hope it works. Thank you for giving me your advices!

Min. education requirement: Diploma and above (anything below, extremely rare cases)


Min. fitness level: Silver and above

Most reliable source for your son to be an officer: Recommendation by the OC or officer in charge of your son in BMT. (Edu level still applies, its just the way it is)

Peer evaluation and SIT test (a test your son will go through near the end of his BMT training to assess leadership qualities) are also part of the assessment for eligiblity.

As for scholarship, there are several bonds available for your child to take. If he is a top student in school, he WILL be offered one automatically. If not he is eligible to apply for scholarships with local universities (NUS NTU etc). (default on bond = huge fine from government)

Career prospects: Like most government jobs, highly based on academic achievements. The higher your qualification The better your pay in general. Do not be surprised to see scholars chosen by the government to surpass their officers within a few years. Very structured organization, rank and file, salary wise it is stable but do not expect fat payouts or a big salary jump (normally if you get into some integrity trouble, you will most probably get blacklisted or asked to leave).

Fitness is of outmost importance.

*Lastly, sign on only if your child has the passion to serve his nation as a soldier, and he if only he loves what he doing* Normally people don't last long without passion. The army consist of AIR , LAND and SEA. There are many aspects to consider,every faction has a different way of doing things. Being an officer is one thing, but doing what you love is another.

With all that said, this is my personal experience and account of the army, I do hope it will serve to help you out in any way

Thanks Kudozapex. Yes the company also said the same things. Then they went into teaching this thing they call vista (which stands for values, inspiration, stress management, teamwork and something, i think it's attitude), which they say are the most important qualities of an officer. I must say so far the lessons are very good

Come to think of it, the 'vista' system is something that is of much value to everyone. so whatever the case, i believe something good will come out of it : )
