      ChiefKiasu:
I started my P3 son on Kumon early this year. That is late by any standards, but his routine calculations have improved by leaps and bounds. Doesn't help much with the type of modelling questions that schools are so fond of these days, though.

      Hi

I am new here and is looking out for Maths Enrichment course for my P3 girl. Agree with ChiefKiasu that Kumon doesn't help much with modelling questions, esp problem sums. However, Kumon does built good foundations. My girl is with Kumon since K1 and is currently doing P5 level math. However, I felt that she needs more help in problem sums. Any recommendations?

I send my girl to Concept Math Education Centre @ Goldhill Plaza, next to United Square. It's run by an ex-MOE teacher who has been featured on The Straits Time And Young Parents... My girl is in P1 now and she has been with them since K2.

Im not able to read anything abt it too..[/quote]Hi, the class is conducted in groups of 8 per class... it's done in a relatively lively manner with a lot of teaching and explanation. Sometimes I look at the amount of work they have done in 1.5 hours which was not much and got a bit worried... but later I realized that was due to the fact that the teacher spent more time talking and getting the kids involved and understood the concepts rather than throwing stacks of worksheets and asking them to do....

There is a lot of parents participation too. Parents are invited to sit in the class if we reach too early to pick our kids rather then waiting outside... Lessons and teaching carry on as normal and that's when you see how your child behaves in class... there's also 10 mins session with parents after class ended to brief us on what has been taught and what we need to look out for, which kind of questions in the worksheets are typically exam questions etc...

My girl enjoys the classes and I am happy with it. So far so good.

                    Laughing:
My DS is in P1 and maths is ok except come to problem sum. He always get confuse with the question though he understand what is 'more than' or 'less than'... I am thinking should I send him for Kumon or MPM to help him? or should I focus to get his English improve?... It is no point to send him for Maths tuition when what he need is to get his English hor??? Very confuse.... 😢

You could go through the problem sums with him together to understand the issues he is facing. Sometimes it could just be kids get distracted by long sentences. You could help by asking him to read and understand sentence by sentence.

Hi Callie, wow ... that's the first time I heard of an enrichment centre allowing parents to be in the class. I think it's really nice that they have the 10 mins sharing session with parents too. I cannot find Concept Math Education Centre website ... could you share their contacts with me? Thanks.
