[Hougang] Primary Schools

Hi, my two kids are in HIPS now. thank god one is in P6 and another already secured a place to transfer to PLMGS. I felt I have made a wrong choice for giving my kids to study there. In conclusion, if your kids is super smart one, than go there else it would be good to send them to other sch and also the affliated Secondary sch is also not a good choice to move on. juz for sharing only

Hi, I think it very much depend on how open you are towards different religion. I used to study in a buddhist pri school. There are alot of catholic and christians in the school.[Moderator's note: Topics merged.]
anyone of u is a buddhist who put yr child in a christian school?
When I was in sec school, I went to a convent school. It was really an eye opening time for me given that my parents have non-christian belief and I was from a buddhist primary school. Attending mass in school, surrounded by friends who are of christian/ catholic faith,etc... I feel that as it was during my teenage years, it tend to affect me more as compared to if I were in primary school. The outcome was I started going to church,etc... but 20 years down the road.... I am more of a free thinker but the advantage was it made me more open to religion esp for my kids.
My hubby attended saints school throughout pri & sec. He is also not a convert. Similar to my niece who is in PLMGS Sec 2 this year. Despite that she is exposed to the religion as she was in PLMGS since pri, she appeared to be more interested in the buddhist faith due to family influence.
Personally, I feel that the religion of the school is not important even if you don't share the same belief. -

By the way, how is their school standard? And why the affliated Secondary School is not a good choice to move on?
Thanks -
If you were to stay in Hougang, comparing the students from Xin Min Sec and Holy Innocents’ High, you will "see" why. My son’s greatest fear is to get into that sch because they have heard too much "bullies" there and they prefer to choose North Vista Sec.

But Holy Innocents' Primary School is a SAP school. Although Holy Innocents' Primary School is a SAP school but Holy Innocents' High School is very bad. Many bullies there, I saw many times. Like 'Ah Beng' and 'Ah Lian'.
I am old student of Holy Innocents' Primary School so thinking to put my girl in this school in future. But sometimes, I saw many students hanging around the void deck, then I am thinking whether to put her there. -
Thanks for "reinforcing" what you have seen. means is not just my own perception.
Actually HIPS is a SAP sch because MT is HC and is closed to 99% Chinese. Other than that, they are like normal sch - nothing special. Again got to stress, if your kids can get to elite class, than i think it is good to go there coz will be taught by HODs.
I can say that my son only get to have good Chinese teacher in P5 and P6 and his English teacher in P6. Here unlike other sch will not have Parent-teacher meeting unless your kids is the top students or "worst" students and normal students…nothing. Mine falls in this normal category…that’s why!! for info, my son has been blaming me why i choose that sch for him and not Xin Min. Imagine, Xin Min no balloting in year 1996!!
BTW, you might be wondering why i have so many things to complain…because I have 2 nephews in elite class in the same level and that’s why I can see the different!! -

I'm not sure why your son is \"blaming\" you for not choosing XinMin for him but I think he shouldn't! simply because we as a parent we chose what we think is the best school for them because we will never know which is \"the best school\" in Spore. Thanks for \"reinforcing\" what you have seen. means is not just my own perception.

I'm staying around the area, passing by XinMin Sec/Pri... Monfort school everyday. I hope to share my observation with you.
XinMin too has these students that always hang around at Hougang Green market/Hougang Festival market after school. Many times I saw them in groups using \"vulgar\" and talk very loud, that's what draw my attention to them. I know they are studen from XinMin because they are in their school uniform. That's the bad impression that I've for XinMin school.
I believe every school face the same problems. They sure be some groups of student that appeared to be a gangster-like. Thus, we must ensure their whereabouts and who our children hanging out with...

Most times, we are like the blind feeling different parts of an elephant and forming our own conclusions from what we experienced. Nothing wrong with that, and I’m sure the parents who have good experience with HIPS will eventually come in to talk about it. Discussing these issues out in the open allows us to get the full picture of the "elephant". Thanks to all for sharing!

Does anyone know what Montfort Junior School is like? How’s the standard? How’s the school environment? What’s the student body like? Would appreciate any info you may have

Hi,
I'm staying around passing by MF every day. I quite like the school environment. I consider it as big and pretty airy as compare to most of the neighborhood school around the vicinity. The school recently built an indoor sports hall but I'm not sure if it is for secondary or primary use.
I think they are pretty outstanding in sports. Many poster/banner showing the award/metal won for their badminton. You can also find some reports on their IT project and such from schoolbag from time to time. As for the academy, I have no info on that prospect.
For your info, I did not choose MF for my son mainly because we preferred mix school to Boy school.
Hope the above help.
