      Melodies:
      Can anyone here help?

Am currently under a lot stress and can't go to sleep now.
If I fail at the 2C (within 1km) balloting (still 1 week to go..), can I register in other school and ballot for 2C (1-2km)? If yes, How should I go about to register since the registration for 2C is over..... Help me understand this. Thank you very much :?: :?: :?:
If balloting is necessary, it will be conducted after Phase 2C registration is closed. If you are not successful in the ballot, your next course will be phase 2C supplement, you won't be able to try for another school under the same phase 2C, as you mentioned registration is over.

        VVJJ:
If number of applicants exceeded the available vacanies by 1, will ballot be conducted? Or school will make an exception and admit the 1 child? Anyone with experience to share? :?

No. The school will NOT make any exception to the number of vacancies it offers, during the P1 registration exercise. Even if the vacancies exceed by 1 place, it will still conduct balloting for all those in the affected distance bucket. This is an extremely strict and procedural process.

The only exception that can be made is if multiple children such as twins are included. For example, if during balloting in Phase 2C, the last name drawn are the twins, then both children will be admitted even if it blows the school's quota by 1. However, if the twins' names are drawn earlier, then it affects the current ballot (ie. 2 places will be taken from the available pool being contended for), and no increase in vacancies will happen.

My ex-colleague's case is an example. The school that he registered his son in had 68 places last year, but there were 69 applicants. All 69 applicants stayed within 1 km. Hence, there was balloting within 1 km last year in that school.

Have. I remembered 37 years ago how my mother's tense hand gripped mine while watching the ballot that would change my life forever :). Our education system has not really changed THAT much in this aspect.

You can choose not to be stressed.

I remember my mother telling me that she was very stressed too. And if registration years ago was conducted about the same time as now, then, she had an additional burden; my unborn sister who was due very, very soon. She tried to register me at one of the more established schs (back then, not many choices per neighbourhood, even if you choose a neighbourhood sch), but she was still in the queue when they announced that there were no more vacancies. She didn't want to hunt for another sch so when she heard of another sch in the area (which just moved out of the kampung), she quickly went over to register me there. Of course, when it was my sister's turn, she just registered her in Phase 1.

I also think that registering for P1 places in the 'olden' days are more stressful. back then, regular not-so-rich parents still need to queue up to register their kids in regular schools (not even top ones) - i'm not sure why there was queuing up, but this was what my mum told me šŸ˜‰). my dad didn't manage to register us in the nearest school (which is pretty important cos my mum needs to take care of 4 kids; managing 2 dual session kids and bringing along the rest of the kids to send/fetch the schoolgoing one is no joke) and i heard that they managed to register us in a next nearest neighbourhood school (15-20min by foot) after another round of queuing.

to some, getting into a top school is stressful while to some, just getting into a school is stressful. we should just be glad that the system has removed the stress for the latter situation.
