          Chenonceau and everybody,

Do you think it will be better if this petition is done by using a survey. The survey can contain all the issues, each issue will have a scale of say 1 to 5 to let parents say how much it affects them. Then you can run some statistics on the data collected. Show some charts and interpretation. Then present our the findings to MOE.

If possible, get a member of parliament to help. Need some big shot to help support the idea, maybe WP

Otherwise, I don't think the officials will bother to read thru our lengthy thread. Problem is, who do hah :?

P1 & 2 are supposed to do away w exams by 2013 but what is going to happen when they reach P3? EXAMS!!
My P2 son has at least 1 bite-size assessment, performance task for maths, show-&-tell, writing, read-aloud rubics for languages etc every week! He had just been tested on TEN out of twelve chapters of Chinese textbk for his latest BITE-SIZE assessment last week!
So is there any real changes in the 2008 announcement or in this more recent 2010 initiative? I shuddered at the thought of the rest of the schools in S'pore following the e.gs of this pilot test.

            Some background & details:

wonder why the hot issue this GE does not include education and the problems the school going kids and the parents are facing. Perhaps it's not bread and butter like housing and cost of living. I hope we can get some alternative voice in parliament to help parents.

I recall sometime ago they started to put in more funds and emphasis in art and music in school. In my kids school. They did it only for P1 and 2. P3 onwards, things revert to normal. Thet get the school teachers to run the music and art program. the lessons were awfully boring, my dd also caught the music teacher on facebook while she gets the kid to practice by themselves. Atrocious! The music teacher was a HOD some more. Double atrocious!

They do not take the music and art program seriously and I believe they always anyhow gives grades to the kids. Not that I mind but it was so bad once I couldn't help but confronted the form teacher. My dd got B for Art and B for Music. Her brother got A both. The irony is my ds was neither artistic nor musical. He was a sports person. Whereas my ds has been doing art and music outside school since kindergarten. I ask teacher how can my ds with grade 5 theory and grade 6 piano do worse than her brother who has not much interest in the subjects. I asked for the rubrics if assessment but form teacher keep saying, grade B is very good already. I told her it is okay even if my ds get a C, as long as it makes sense relative to the others grades. She weave around the issue refusing to understand my point. In the end she said she'll let my ds go for some art competition next year. Humph! I told her that was not what I want as I was not asking for compensation of sort or asking for the grades to be changed. I just wanted them to look into the rubrics of assessment and be fair to the future batches of students.

                Me ranting again!

Whatever it is, ultimately I hope we achieve the objective of being heard.

Even though my child is coping well with the current system, there are a lot of sacrifices made as a child. And when I imagine the less fortunate, it must be an uphill task.
