      Thanks Chief,

We are staying in Tampines, so not 2km from CHIJ Toa payoh. My husband and child are both Catholic. My child is born in the year 2003. Hope we don't have problem getting in any of these two sch.

      ChiefKiasu:
CHIJ Toa Payoh is quite a bit more popular than Canossa Convent. You have to make sure you are staying <2km from CHIJ Toa Payoh if you do not have other means of getting into the earlier phases. Canossa Convent has not required balloting for any phase in the last 2 years.

In terms of academic achievements, CHIJ Toa Payoh has also been more consistent compared with Canossa Convent. It is notable, though, that one of the top 10 students in last year's (2007) PSLE is from Canossa Convent. The question is whether this is a one time thing or if the school has really become better in producing such students.

Both schools provide excellent character development for girls.

        Chief,

Could you share more details on the impending renovations and timelines of KHS? I hope it is ready when my child enters P1 in 2012...(provided I manage to get in) šŸ˜‰

          Hi,

Anyone has any info on Haig Girls? understand it used to be quite a good school but noticed no one vote for it being their preferred school and enrolment also not fantastic. Any insights from anyone?

            Hi Chief,

Thanks for sharing information about Kong Hwa - I heard about the same from my neighbour (his girl is there also).

Both Kong Hwa and GMPS is within 1Km, but I’m not sure which to go for.

I hear that the workload in KH is fairly high (spelling, presentation work even for Primary 1 kids).

Any clue what Geylang Methodist Pri is like?

            Thanks much!

                    Ladybird:
In general, academic achievement is one way of judging a school but go and visit the school grounds of Canossa Convent. It is simply beautiful, the traditions and Canossian way (from Italy) is very much alive. One of the few schools left with Canossian nuns in charge of Pastoral care. I left this school 20 years ago and my heart still skip a beat! Also Affliated to St Anthony's Canossian Schools

In 2007, Canossa Convent primary school produced a top 15 PSLE scorer, without any additional frills of gifted teaching... Furthermore, it is linked to Canossian schools around the world.
i personally believe that whether a school had produced any top PSLE scorer should not be the main concern for selection of a good school. Rather it should have a good average PSLE result... such as, firstly it must have 100% PSLE passed as minimum benchmark, next is, how many of them had gone to sec's express stream?

Some schools are concentrating their efforts on top classes while left aside those average and below average classes. I think a good school should rather ensure ALL of their students passed their PSLE, including the worst student in the school, and then make sure most of them can enter into Express stream. That should be the way we judge on the creditibility of a school.

I agree... unfortunately this data is hard to come by and MOE does not release the information publicly because it does not want kiasu parents like us to compare schools and make the imbalance worse. Each year, the only thing MOE releases is the list of top students and schools with top performing students. We have to depend on the individual schools themselves to publish the data as they deem fit. As a result... we see a hodge-podge of varying presentation of information as schools try to show the data in the best light. How to compare like that?

PV can apply for some work like librarian, badminton/table tennis (to challenge student ), family day assistant, etc. school will inform PV coming events or work which allow PV to choose convenient time.
