Agreed. I hope he will still contribute in other ways.
This is a sad day for Singapore. We have just lost a person who dares to change status quo, and who wants greater openness and engagement with the citizens.tankee:
George Yeo broke his promise
Foreign Minister George Yeo said on Tuesday he will not be contesting Aljunied GRC at the next general election.
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1127882/1/.html
anyway he is 57yr old, by next GE, he would be 62!
One of the minister that I admired most. Sharp Mind, Down to Earth, Candid, high IQ and HIgh EQ .... a hard to come by talent.
Hope his contribution to Singapore will be remembered in some positive way othe than GE2011 -

You are absolutely right. Also Read Many Posts here and There that says by Next Election PP May Vanish, and will be part of a GRC ....
Does this mean that as long as the ward is in opposition hand, Ruling party cannot touch / change electoral boundaries ....
But as long as it is within Ruling Party, then can do so? :?
That's why PP had 27 years to grow into a community, while other constituencies look and feel like clones of one another; traded for one GRC after another; having one MP for 5 years, then another for another 5 years; having their cases and relationship with their MP and town councils rebuilt all the time.
Why the loss at PP? Well, new people like my neighbour moved in here for the community spirit, peace, tranquility (read: non-upgraded features), but voted for PAP because they felt it can be \"improved\". We who have lived here for all these years are happy with what we've gained by our MP and his team, but the many new comers and new citizens in the condos haven't been here long enough to imbibe our community spirit, and thus did what Sitoh said, and voted for 'themselves'. *sighs*
Like what one person said, when a Today reporter asked him what he can expect PP to gain: \"What happiness can you give to people who are already happy?\" -

This question has been burning in me for days ... someone has answer?so tintin got lowest votes in Macpherson and pull down the overall % of MP GRC?
I really want to confirm that NS has higher votes than TPL in Macpherson.
Then this will further show the flaw of GRC. Vote for your ideal candidate, she won but cannot represent you in parliament because of GRC. -

I know .. for the greater good of Singapore and PAP.looking at the brighter side of thing, this is a good thing to happen to PAP so that they will not blunder in a bigger way in the future...can you imagine if PM Lee got voted out if they continue to be deaf to the cries from the lao bai xin ? that will be sad for SG.
George Yeo can always contribute to nation building in many other ways, with or without a political office. My take is that since he does not hold a political office (for the time being at least), he could be even more effective !
But still sad that we lose a good minister, if only it was another less popular minister. -
