they ALWAYS say they have the most-est and the best-est....most number of scholars etc etc and once you passed through the door of the school and become scholar in the future and enter the admin service = YOU ARE MADE FOR LIFE (verbatim from the person who gave the talk, 2 years same person same talk). they way he talk very boastful lah.....

NOT denying they have scholars, and they ARE very GOOD in many areas.....just the \"hard sell\" part make people feel they are trying too hard to impress and compare and say \"look we are no less than .......\" make people feel that they feel insecure about their position amongst other IP schools. HCI is good and they can feel confident about themselves without sounding like \"broadcasting\" all the time....corporate comm need to revamp

I have attended and heard quite a few DSA school talks - I consider most of this \"marketing\" or \"buay ko yoke\" only.

Personally, I think the better part of any open house is interacting, talking and listening to the students in that school. You can assess how they carry themselves, how they talk, what they think, what they like or dislike, how they feel about the school workload, what opportunities they have had....these to me are much more important than the # of scholars, # of awards, # of distinctions, etc. Just my personal humble opinion.

I agree. One school's Open House I attended had the P boasting about his school and that created a poor impression of the school for me. If you're a truly good school, you don't need to brag.

        Hi ddmiamia,

Whether a student who gained admission via DSA is placed in a separate class is dependent on the school. Some schools make no exception for DSA students, and they're placed in classes according to their academic ability or randomly, depending on the school's policies. Other schools, however, will try to group students who came in via the same DSA sports in the same class.

I'm not too sure what you're asking in the second part of your question. Different schools have different requirements and categories for DSA. Some schools for instance, require you to specifically state the academic domain under which you're applying, be it English, Math, Science etc. For these schools there's no 'general' academic domain. Some schools regard Special Talent as CCA-related (sports, aesthetics) or leadership etc.

If you have a particular school/schools in mind, maybe you could list it so the parents with experience could better help you.
        Hi,
For RVHS, will the child be put in separate class if he DSA by sport ?

Hi Andante, in RVHS, the students are all put at random into classes, not according to PSLE results or whatever. 😄
