Anyone has any idea for St Andrew’s if the parent must an active member in church as in volunteering or confirmed member ? Thanks alot!

Not true. For hotter schools (eg Ai Tong, Tao Nan), I think the criteria is longer (I have heard 4 years). For the others, I have heard those who join within 1 year get the recommendation letter.

But do note, membership is only approved twice a year (not sure if got change). If the child is registering this year, likely the parent has missed the boat. First boat is to get membership approved; 2nd boat is the application for recommendation letter (this takes place I think in April or something...gotta check the shhk website).

I think that's the case for most SHHK schools - there are a couple where one can hope if staying between 1-2KM; those outside 2KM really got very very slim chance.

1. Just submitted my application for SHHK in May 2011
2. My son is due for P1 registration in 2012. (born in 2006)

[sorry but I'm being very brutal and direct here] My 2cents worth (things subject to change).

You should be making preparations for plan B.

1. Query on when your application may be approved - I'm not sure when their next meeting is held. Your membership will be dated based on WHEN they approve. Ask the SHHK recept also about your chances - the office is not that big and they may be able to tell you how last year's application went. TNS is traditionally a popular choice so their requirements may be more stringent. If you want to increase your hope, they have volunteer events...these will go toward increasing your hope of a recommendation letter.

3. Based on past 2 yr stats, plus the fact there are many new developments that popped up within the vicinity, I'm expecting that TNS will have to ballot within 1KM in Phase 2B going forward. Those 1-2Km already very very slim chance although there is always hope for a miracle.

I agree with hquek.

It would not be easy to receive SHHK's recommendation for Tao Nan next year since you are just registering for SHHK now. And even if you somehow managed to secure the recommendation, it is very unlikely that you would even have a chance to participate in phase 2B balloting. My take is balloting for phase 2B & 2C will be for within 1km. Too many landed properties are replaced by apartments within 1 km to the school.

better start planning for plan B.

you are very lucky and even if you cant use this membership to enrol your kid, i would suggest you keep this membership.
