Do check out the compre passages and questions asked...also for Synthesis. My son told me his SA1 Eng passage was non-fiction and questions mostly on explaining phrases in the passage. I know he is weak in that...so I'm looking for passages to improve that area.
Any mummy can recommend some suitable assessment titles pls ? Thanks in advance.

          Hi All,

Sorry I am here to trouble you all again

Can share with me, for the English Comprehension Assessment Books that you are using - are they arrange in such a way that the passage is on one page and the questions on the other?

The reason that I asked is because my DD1 is   every time she does the Success in Comprehension by Marshall Canvendish. She feels to turn over to the previous page to find the answer, underlines it and then write her answer on another page is very tiring  ...

At times, I also feel :?: less and restless - maybe due to the hot weather recently πŸ˜“ πŸ˜“ πŸ˜“

          :thankyou: In Advance! :grphug:

            Hi Champion,
Don't have to feel bad...we are all here to share and release frustrations if need be. Guess mummies here will understand since we are all in same boat. I've not much rest bcos daughter in P1 has class review right after son's SA last week :imdrowning: Still worried how son performed for SA1.

Yes, I've heard that complaint from son many times about flipping endlessly to copy the answer. All his assessment books are like that. Told him nicely there is nothing much I can do, nor the publisher. Same goes for his school exam. Anyway, he can't copy the answer 'wholesale' from passage...besides, his answers now can't be lifted and copied 'wholesale' from passage.

The weather is very hot and humid...I feel very pekchek and lethargic most of the time.

              Hi Janet,

              Thanks for the encouragement! :hugs:

Yea, the weather is so super hot that I rather not step out of the house :siam: ....But has to come to office to \"report work\" :gloomy:

DD1 has no \"interest\" to do the M.C. Success In Comprehension  ...Not only now but even before the SA1, she would give me the \"Can skip this assessment book?\" look whenever I want to start any EL revision  ....Now that SA1 is over and I know Comprehension is the \"killing part\", which the EL teacher has \"hinted\" the class that they did not do very well in this section. So, hoping to \"catch up time\" to do some Compre revision with her....

A consolation for you perhaps would be 'free aircon' in the office. Leave home early in the morn and return home in the evening when it's cooler. I am perspiring whole day. Can't switch on air con all the time bcos it's expensive...so I sit in front of the fan.

I gave my son 2 days of complete play-time after his exams...until he is bored...reverse psychology  Now, I make him do some work everyday and he can play after that...provided he has checked and given me quality work.

Actually I told him I'll give him a week off, but after 2 days, he told me SA1 results coming back soon and I saw his worried look. So I told him to get some work done since he should know why. If he wants to continue play, by all means but bear the consequences himself. Actually, no amt of play is enough for him but there must be a time for everything and he's no longer in lower primary.
I need to start him on tougher assessment books esp for compre.

Yes, Janet - guess my DD1 is just like your boy - no amount of play is enough :rotflmao: ...Anyway, they are kids so I believe they still have the \"play\" attitude in them :boogie: ....

MY DD1 \"sense the consequences\" esp she came back on Monday, told me over the phone what EL T has commented regarding the Comprehension. :scared: She knows her area of weakness and asks for :imdrowning: from Mummy πŸ˜‰ ...But she simply switch off when I passed her the Success in Comprehension 😒 .....Sigh, maybe shall I search for other publishers' books to compare the content? Step into Popular again!! :dowan: :siam:

Knowing her, its best for me to give her at least something to do each day, be it simple homework like writing to improve her handwriting, else she will play until she forgets her surname. She didnt really do well for her english so i bought a new book \"Casco Pass English\" to brush up during the June holiday. This book seems more challenging than the MC Study Helper which i had. MC study helper seems more easy.
Buying assessment book is really a skill. I have bought some which i regretted and didnt mge to finish it and then start on the latest collection. They are either too easy or not comprehensive enough.. heartpain on the money wasted.
