Thanks for the prompt reply, 25hourmaid. I was just hoping the sch bus journey would take around 30-40mins. But now need to reconsider my choice of sch because I am not sure if 2-hour (2-way) daily bus journey would be too exhausting for a P1 kid. I prefer OLGC to OLN because it is a smaller school.
btw anyone has any idea if there is a regulation that sch bus journey should not exceed 1 hour? Cos I was told the sch bus journey to St Margaret’s pri also takes 1 hour even though the distance is doubled! Isn’t that funny? The reason is because the SMPS school bus takes in 12 girls only compared to the OLGC bus which ferries 20 girls…Now feeling so confused as to which sch to go for cos the sch bus journey is about the same! Sigh! -

As far as I know, I don't think there is any regulation that a school bus journey cannot take more than one hour, but I think the onus should lie on the parents. The bus drivers are merely doing their job, so if the parents think that a two-hour journey to/fro a primary school every day for 6 years is fine, then I suppose there will always be bus drivers who are willing to make that journey? Thanks for the prompt reply, 25hourmaid. I personally feel that one should not attempt to send a 7 year old child from one end of the island to the other end just for a so-called good primary school. It is very tiring for the poor child and when the child is in Upper Primary, there will be extra lessons, CCAs etc, and while some school bus provide transport for those late days at an additional cost, I still think it is not a wise idea to send your child to a school that is so far away and we are not talking about 1 or 2 years, we are talking about 6 years of Primary School education.
Again, just my two cents worth, no offence. -
Did anyone else feedback to the school on the late information about the parent-teacher meetings next week? I know that we were given the dates at the beginning of term but I didn’t receive the note until yesterday. When I called up last week they didn’t seem very bothered about it. It is quite unreasonable to give us less than one week’s notice and tell us that school will be closed (which us P1 parents wouldn’t have known).
I also don’t have any information on the Olympics Day next week - I’ve had to plan a business trip around guesses for both events; do they not appreciate that many of us are working?
Up until now they have been very good about keeping us informed but it seems to have fallen apart over the past few weeks. -
nms1:
There was a \"Calendar of Events\" letter given out earlier in the year with the important dates for the term listed. Thankfully, I remembered to put them all in our family google calendar so we could plan around the events.

The Olympics Day thingy seems to coincide with Founder's Day. Couple that with being the last day of school for the term, I would imagine that they would have some kind of celebration and games etc. Don't think they will be coming home late that day though. Probably end at 1:30pm.
Cheers! -
I actually just called them again to ask about next Friday - I’m sure I have been branded a troublemaker by the office now! They told me they will have the information on Monday.
They did give us a calendar at the beginning of the year but for those of us that are working, it would be nice to know in advance if parents are expected to be there, what time it will be, what time they are finishing etc. rather than just a date.
At the moment I am booked to come back overnight from a business trip just in case I need to be there but I don’t really want to do that unless I have to. I’m sure they must have all the arrangements in place so why can’t they just tell us? -
Hi, I am keen to get my daughter in OLGC next year. Just some queries and hope someone can help me. 1) Anyone got the contactn no. for the school bus that ferry the students to OLGC, 2) If really to go by public transport i.e bus, do we have to walk a far distance (1km) inside from the main road? Thanks.

1. The bus company is \"Plus 1 Your Preferred Transportation\". Contact numbers are 6481-6297, 6484-2049.
2. It _appears_ to me that the distance is about 400m or less (from stops at either Boundary Road or Lorong Chuan). Definitely not 1km though. -
Thanks for the reply.

If you come from AMK Ave 1 - the Golden Hill Bus Stop - it is probably about a 10 minute walk into the school on a flat road. If you come from Lorong Chuan - the Chuan Walk bus stop - it's probably the same but it's uphill on the way. -
An update on my "moan" - called the school again and apparently the teacher in charge for Friday is on MC but they didn’t manage to confirm that school will be dismissed at 12:30.
Do any of the non-P1 parents out there remember what happened last year? Is this something that most parents attend?
