coccomie:
I am facing a same problem last 3 weeks. My maid just cleared her loan and got her first salary. Out of sudden , she said she wanted to go back as she miss her son. As she is a very good helper, so i keep asking her to stay and even offer her a new salary package. Anyway, she decided to stay with me till year end (yet to finish the contract, w/o the new salary package). She told me she will pay the air ticket by herself. However, when i called the agency, they told me we should pay the air ticket but as long as the maid agree to pay herself then just leave it. So headache!hi mummies,
I need some advices here. My 8mth maid want to quit and go back to her country. Her reason: her husband dont want her to continue to work here. She has finished her loan but not her contract (only 8mth in singapore). As employer, I need to pay for the air ticket to send her back? Or she should pay for her own ticket as she is the one that want to go back.
Thanks -

My maid paid for her own ticket when she broke her contract. Worked with me for 1 yr and decided to go back as her mum was sick. Not sure how true is it as nowsaday, maids are here for holiday. Once they finished their contract, they'll give all sort of reasons of going back !hi mummies,

I think the contracts do state that it is the employer’s responsibility to pay for their ticket home regardless of the reason i.e. whether they have finished the contract or not.
If you have enough notice and book a budget airline ticket it will probably be quite cheap. Remember, for them if they just go back anyhow then decide to come back again it costs them a lot in agent fees so I don’t think they do it lightly and if they do they will regret it! -
MOM regulation stipulates that employers have to pay for the passage back home - and the contract these days stipulate that we have to send them to the airport stipulated in the contract and not just any town in their country.
For those who like their maids and hope they will stay, ask them to consider carefully becos they were earning money for those brokers, and not their family. if they are to continue the work, how much they would be earning etc. let them call home from time to time perhaps (though in some cases, it might be better for them NOT to call home).
But in any case, consider also if it’s wise to keep one who’s obviously so longing to go home. There have been many tragedies happening becos the maid cannot take the stress of being away from home. -
Hi
Anyone tried mizoram maid? Thought of trying them. -
Need help…
Any mommies have experience remitting $ back to indonesia?? My current helper will be leaving on Fri, and she has never remitted any of her $ back. Now my agency told me that its kinda dangerous to carry so much cash with her.
The problem is… my helper only has her Bro’s account and her brother stays in Sumatra and she in Java… I asked her if she is really sure she wanna send to her Bro and she says yes. In any case, we only have:
1. Her Bro’s BRI account no.
2. Her Bro’s Name
3. Her Bro’s Street Address. It’s just a street name. Can this work? I asked her if this is full address and she says yes! I really dunno how sure she is.
Anyone with experience can help? Do I just go to any remittance co. (those with money changer) and give the 3 details above?? Pls help, as I’ll need to do this before Fri!! Yikes! -
For my previous indo maids, we always use Western Union (Singpost also via western union) - no bank account also can. They go there, fill up a form and then they will be given a code number. When she’s back, she can go to the WU branch and collect the money with the pin. Alternatively, if there is bank address, she can instruct to have it sent to the bank…but there’s is a waiting time.
FYI, it’s pretty expensive to wire money back…the more you wire, the higher the jump (I can’t recall but it’s a hefty amount).
What I did for my first maid was to give her a money belt (she can sew her own). Get S$ and put in the money belt. MOney is always with her body and unless she’s strip searched, they can’t locate it. No issues with that. For my 2nd, her attitude sucked and I couldn’t be bothered to do that - just brought her to western union…and not like she had much also becos she didn’t finish the 2 yr contract.
I would not advise sending to sibling’s or even parent’s bank account. Inform her, once it’s in his account, he can don’t give you the money. Eg, if I were to fund transfer by mistake to a stranger’s account - he can say I don’t want to give you back…and I wouldn’t have recourse unless I sue that fella. it’ll be a timely and costly affair, by which time the money should have been spent. And all the more they are in different islands! But that said, it’s HER money, she can choose what she wants to do. As a human, I will tell her this - end up, she has to decide for herself. -
hquek, I did ask her this. Is she sure that she will get BACK her money? Cos' we told her clearly, if he kapok her $... she will go back with just that few hundred she have left here, and we dont want her to go back after 2 years with her $ being taken away by her Bro. Anyway, like u said, its HER money. So when she said Yes... we just try to see what's the best way to remit for her... HAIZ!
Thanks for the info on WU though... i'll go and check it out! Tks!!

SMH_forest,
She may have to break up the remittances into a few times. So try to do it before friday - they have a limited number of remittances per day. I recall that I had to break up my maid’s into 2 times else the remittance fee would triple. I scolded the post office lady for not telling us earlier when we signed the form…else my maid would have wasted money. -
Check out this.

I seriously don't think she need to send to a bank account leh. But she'll probably need a bodyguard when she pick up her money.
